Default Scuttle Drain

Mine is (are) blocked.

I tried the procedure shown elsewhere with the bit of pipe under the airbox but no joy (might have been my lack of puff- no airline!).

I have holly trees in my driveway, so the berries will have found their way in.

I tried putting a lot of water in the scuttle in the hope that the head of water pressure might free the blockage, but no joy.

Water leaked from below the dash (both sides) and dampened the front carpets.

Next time I drove, a load of water sloshed out of the rear air outlet (same area as rear fag lighter) and wet the rear carpets.

Is there any way of clearing a stubbornly blocked scuttle drain other than the 'airline and bit of pipe' method?

Maybe from below with car on a ramp?

The outflow from the drains under the fan chamber come out either side of the Bell housing of the gearbox. You can see them in this photo either side of the gear change cable.



Without the engine of transmission out you can only clear from above using LP air.

Have you ever had success with the 'air' method?

Is it possible to strip the car out above the drain for access?

Is the top hole a reasonable size?

It's a while since last I was marmalised!

I need to make something to shove in the hole- but I don't know where it is or what it looks like.

Maybe A8 parts have a pic of what the top of the drain looks like when the black air intake box is off?

That would help.

Mine is truly clogged.

Yup.

It's the central drain that isn't draining. See post one for account of my failed attempt to clean it.

I don't have an airline, so I think a way of physically dislodging the crud might do better.

Trouble is-as you know- it's impossible to view the drains' top.
If I knew exactly where it was and what it looks like, likely I could fab something to stick in it.

If you haven't got compressed air try attaching a garden hose to the copper pipe . the 90 degree bend you put in the end will snag in the hole where the water drains under the fan housing. Then just give it a short blast and see if that clears the blockage. You may get a bit in the car but it's already damp.

OK, Oh knowledgable one. I'll try that tomorrow if it's stopped raining.

This pipe of which you speak: It has to be 'bent' to fit under the air intake box. I've got that.

Should it also have a 90 degree bend at the very end to fit down the 'ole?

If so, what..about an inch below the bend??

Would that fit in?
