Cheers all.
No issues with the engine before the battery change at all. Only since the new battery went in - before the battery change at tickover and stationary, it purred - now the whole car rocks. Will have to pay a visit to Limoncello tomorrow (if OK with him) and run another diagnostic again......

Very strange. I have had the battery out before, and left the car without battery for days, on re-connecting no issues at all, I didnt have to re-adapt any settings.
However, I too have this rocking, or wobbling on idle since last year, but no problem once moving, as proven by 0-60 time at GTI apparently no performance loss, no codes, no missfire detected. Just a very strange idle, I still havent got to the bottom of it. Last edited by Goran; 8th August 2012 at 09:36 PM.

Battery Ground Connection
If all was fine before changing battery....then I would swap it out and put in the old one and see what happens....might be worth checking the connections on the battery and the ground connection.....
Try putting a multimeter across the battery to check the voltage also....should be about 13-14 volts when engine running as the alternator should be charging the battery

Well - its sorted
Not sure if it was the resetting of the TBP (throttle body position) but after putting on around 50 Miles it is running like a good 'un again
