Ive done some research and plumped for THIS one which has an awesome 110Ah capacity and a cold cranking amps of 920 which is good and high.

After a bit of playing one battery shop off against the other I've managed to get it for £99 including Vat which I don't think is too bad for a very high performance battery. I wondered how everyone else is finding the cold weather affecting their battery charge, and also who else has changed battery and to what Batteries at what sort of prices?
Hi Neil,

Did you manage to install this battery? It is 393 mm in length. Standard battery is 353 mm in length. I don't think there's 40 mm extra space in the battery well.

Hi Sergey - no, you're right it doesn't fit, and by a very tiny amount which is even more frustrating! I swapped it at the Battery place for the highest capacity & cranking amps one I could that would fit.
- I'll look out the receipt and let you know what it was

The battery well is slightly tapered too as i have cut the hold down lugs off a truck battery as it was close, but found out once i had the battery started to go down the well but wedged in about 1/3rd the way down.

017 i think is the correct type and even then you can buy an 017 with different output depending on brand.

As 110ah batteries are longer there is special battery well for those in ETKA, part number 4D0 867 706 F, which I ordered yesterday.

I understand I need to cut the right hand side boot trim a bit to allow for larger battery.

Well the 017 should relate to the battery type so size should be the same i.e. 353L x 175W x 190H (ish depending on terminals) If it's much longer than this you can cut the trim as much as you like but it won't go down the well. The well is fiberglass / plastic same as the spare wheel well.

017 Exide 90Ah

017 Exide 100Ah

The well in a FL may well be a touch longer because more electric gizmos?

Been here before, and even after i shortened the battery it still didn't goto the bottom. Just be carefull.

'4D0 867 706 F' battery well for 393mm long battery seems to be metal or alu.

My current standard battery well is plastic or fibreglass and it will only fit 353mm long battery.

I would highly recommend the principle of an AGM battery - I use 3 of them in my competition audio car (albeit at £400 each with approx 5000 cranking amps total !).

Don't see any reason why it wouldn't be good for an S8, perhaps take a look at the Bosch S6 range ?

Cheers.

Is it true that AGM batteries are fully backwards compatible with older cars and dont require any specific things to charge them? Will they live comfortable with Audi alternator?
