Default Trying my patience.......

Right now I know this thing is out to wind me up.

Theres me not feeling too good, my asthma playing me up, not much sleep , ended up working from home etc.

go out to my car to go to the quacks and start up, - fine

on with the wipers........... halfway up they stop, dead, nada, nilch......

Motor is still going but no movement whatsoever. Well, its peeing down so I'm going no where in this without wipers....

so its out with the spanners

quick look and I can see that the linkage that connects to the motor isn't anymore.

so if this happens to you heres how to fix it

Move the wipers physically so that they are in the 'park' position ( this is to aid in lining up later)

prise the covers off the nuts that hold the wiper arms on and unbolt the wipers.( 13mm nuts)

undo the bolts that hold the plastic 'trim' and washers to the car ( there are three in total, one hidden under a cover in the centre. 10mm )

with the trim loose you can move it out the way up wards towards the screen.

IN my case I was lucky and the nut and washer had just dropped down and caught against the bulkhead, a magnetic screwdriver retrieved them for me.

now its a case of manilpulating the linkage back onto the spindle and replacing the washer and nut. at this point tighten it but don't worry about locking it super tight as you may need to adjust it in the next step.

In order to check it is aligned properly clip some Mole grips onto the spindles where the wipers fit such that the handles lie in the direction that the arms would if you put them on.

turn the wipers onto intermittant.

watch the mole grips as they 'sweep' the arc of movement(make sure they won't catch the screen and if paranoid put a towel or something on the screen in case) and check that it follows the exact path that you think it should. On my first attempt they seemed to follow the path but then did this weird 'jump' upwards about 4" when they parked. moving the linkage round a bit more by loosening it and physically turning it a little then tightening it back up fixed it.

When you are happy tighten the screw up to lock it ( I personally will be putting some thread lock on next time but didn't have any to hand for this occasion)

Refit the trim and wiper arms and test again.

Job done......

Or it would have been because now the display when the car is running has decided to go off. It works fine when you power on so I know its not the actual display just as I move into drive instead of getting gear position/MPG/etc I get a black screen. not too big a problem untill I switched into tip mode and now have no idea what gear its in. GRRRRRRRRRR

I'll always be honest even if it does make me look a prat.

I say if you can't laugh at yourself you're in teh wrong life.

plus at least if it happens to anyone else it may save them some embarrassment.
