RNS-D in PF

wonder how difficult would it be to fit in PF car??

I had it running on a PF car, so its do-able, but its a right PITA.
heated seat wiring changes slightly, fog lights change completely and require an external latching box as PF ones latch, and FL are momentary - Hazard warning light changes, but most of the Audio wiring is simple changeover. Heated rear window moves to climate module too, but thats a fairly simple wire move Biggest problem as ever is the A/C module, which whilst its fundamentally the same wiring, the FL module uses a can signal to know if the engine is running to switch on the A/C compressor - No Can on PF, so no A/C without some other clever stuff. On My S8 I had a can signal generator to put the speed signals on the bus for the climate, but seriously, its a lot of messing about for little gain....

Is it just as hard to put the original RNS C unit that came with some PF models in? You can't get the PF double din from Audi anymore though sadly.

No, thats pretty easy as all the switch gear is PF - Quite a quick job really.
Might as well buy an RNS-D, fit the square RNS-C facia to it (a few screws) and enjoy a much better Sat Nav for the same effort pretty much.

Thats the plan, I know Paul Waterloo has an RNS C fascia for sale at the moment too. I wonder if it would be possible to make an RNS E small enough to fit into a PF double din original sat nav thing?

Dont see why not, but I think it would look a bit out of place imo.
The PF is a classic piece of Audi kit now, I think the RNS-E would look well out of place. At least the PF was available with an RNS-C, and the RNS-D looks indentical, so that would pass in my purist eyes...

for a single DIN setup my 1st thought would be for a fold out screen for when you want nav - I know it's not OE or even close to it, but on the hassle to fit front it sounds a much simpler option and probably less likely to be noticed by thieving so-and-so's.....
At least you'd have DVD nav and most likely bluetooth added at the same time.

I suppose its viable for some, I'd never go non OEM on a headunit. Heck I didn't even let Autoglass fit a non OEM windscreen.
