Default D2R bulbs - what's best?

What bulbs are people running in their D2s? Whatever is in there now does not satisfy my need for light. LED doesn't seem to be a good option even though I loved my nighteye LEDs in my old D2. Phillips seems to be the best option after watching endless videos

I switched to Philips X-tremeVision (gen2) a few years ago:
https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/85126X...headlight-bulb

A tad expensive but a big improvement on the original bulbs.

Be careful where you buy them from though. There are a lot of fakes for sale!

Same here, on all counts!
I have Philips but the first pair I bought were fakes.
The packaging was very good at first glance and even the holograms looked convincing, but the unique serial number was the same on both……..

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

It looks like a few of us now the clocks have gone back are noticing the headlights are not as good as they should be.

I had the same thoughts over the weekend driving the S8 as the headlight output is not as good as the Audi A2 I have!

Another vote for Phillips here. Vast improvement when I changed mine last winter.

A tad pricey as mentioned but well worth it

Its a shame Osram don't do Nightbreakers in D2R - only D2S. I have those in my A6 and they are excellent.

Two sites I've used before for bulbs that list these are:

https://www.powerbulbs.com/product/p...en2-d2r-single

and

https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/ph...sion-bulb.html

Both usually have deals going/discount codes worth keeping an eye out for, especially if you're buying more than 1 as it likely the case

Seems like Phillips is indeed the one to go for. Amazon sells them for £52 a bulb, I'd imagine they're genuine? Both sold and fulfilled by Amazon.

Are the D2 headlight bulbs D2R. I thought that they were D2S.
There's a big difference between the two so best to get it right
