Yeah unfortunately none of the headunits available will be plug and play as the D2 is unique on many levels..

I have met up with MJ at her amazin workshop to do some other mods and once we have everything finalised I think we will create another more concise thread with a simple how to, depending on what head unit/setup you want to go with.

If this radio didn't cost so much I would have given up too, but I already stepped into this mess with one foot so I might as well take it through to completion and make other people's lives easier.

Bad news:

The usb filter doesn't provide enough bandwith for smooth operation.
For example If if music is playing though spotify, and I'm browsing through albums the audio and video start to stutter, same thing happens if watching a video. Music on its own or video on its own is fine...

Next step will be to ditch the filter, and connect the 12 to 5V converter straight to the Carplay dongle...

Pic below shows what i mean:

BIG UPDATE:

No stupid and expensive dongle is required to have wireless and wired android auto on the head unit.

All you need is an app called Headunit Reloaded from the play store, which costs £4.99 and not £50-70 like the stupid dongle.

All you do to make it work is install the app, pair your phone to head unit with blueooth and wifi and that's it, it just works!

If anyone else has bought a dongle I would send it right back, its just another unneeded complication.

App link:

GPS module installed in the boot lid, a long overdue job:

Coax cable routed the oem way:

Sprayed some grease to ease the friction while pulling it through grommets:

Result [taken next to a huge metal barn]

Built in google maps app:

Update:

Old amp setup evacuated:

New MJ inspired amp (https://www.facebook.com/D2Doctor/po...94764037543180)
Kenwood X802-5 installed back on the oem mounting plate:

Mounting plate modification to allow all the cabling to be hidden from view when installed:

Amp itself is lifted off the plate for better cooling:

Amp in place. The original wiring was just about long enough to reach the amp in its mounting position:

All done. Can't get any more oem than this:

The butchered boot lining was also replaced with a £22.50 one from prestige with free ups shipping, I have no idea how they made any money on this haha.
Thanks to MJ for always doing everything better than everybody else

All good progress Ronin.

Thing I am asking is why change the Bose amp? Just having my first proper experience of the Bose in the D2's and I dont see what the issue is? I prefer a bit more treble in my listening but that could be due to my hearing

I see statements on forums the Bose is S#$%. But have not found any definitive reasons why. I do think it can be a bit Boomy but reducing the base alleviates that. Test for me is comfortably numb (live from the pulse album) and it still send shivers. It also makes the rear blind rattle though
