Default keyless entry - R138 error

hi,

i did several scans on VCDS and R138 pops up regularly. Now i was keen to get keyless entry sorted out on mine and did read some of the posts related to it. I removed/disconnected the antenna but that did not fix anything so to speak... Keyless entry still does not work, i cannot lock the car via lock button on the driver's door handle [nor on any other] etc.

Something i tried the other day as well is to put in a key in the lock and select Start button and was presented with 'key not recognised' or something along those lines. A weird thing is that i can stop the engine using the Stop option which does not hold for Start?! Any hints?

The only time I have had similar issues is when the battery in the key is weak,

Try replacing it or using another key to see if it's better etc

Default Kessi....antenna

sounds like antenna is faulty or the wiring between kessi n antenna is faulty....I would get a replacement antenna n wire it direct to kessi unit under passenger seat n see if it works...

I'm not so sure it is a single antenna issue, because the others should work even if one is down, for example when i had the rear bumper off for painting the boot would no longer open with comfort access but the other doors would, as soon as i refitted the bumper it worked again without having to clear codes etc.

that was my understanding too... the car has other two antennas [3 in total] which should provide enough radio power to recognize the key and operate appropriately.

I tried with other two keys I have and both reported 'low battery' - guess one is/would be charged while the key is in the ignition?

cheers.

No the batteries won't charge like they do in a BMW, I found that both our keys needed the batteries done when I got the car, and also the wives seemed to eat the battery, also it played up a lot to start with and the conclusion I came to was it was in her handbag getting squeezed to death by all the usual crap the fairer sex carries around with them.

That i think was flattening the key fob battery and maybe causing other issues but since I told her she makes sure its in a part of her bag without stuff pressing against it and its been fine since.

Try new batteries in the keys, also have heard about people saying that the key needs to be matched to the car sometimes by starting the car with the key in the barrel, if thats true or just old fish wives tales i couldn't say but its worth a try.
