I went with a Duracell battery last time (about 6 months ago):

(to be honest, I wasn't even aware Duracell made car batteries before that)

This one I think:

Thanks for all the wisdom folks

Went for a Yuasa Silver HSB019 from Halfords:

http://www.halfords.com/motoring/bul...5-yr-guarantee

I picked up a 'trade' card using my normal business card, and got a 20% discount so paid £96

I could've got a slightly lower spec one from TPS as mentioned on the previous page but decided to plump for this one.

All fitted, basic settings done incl the throttle body (don't think I've ever done that before!) and just waiting for the radio clock to sort itself out and reset!

Ended up removing all the boot side trim and the bit around the boot catch as it made access so much easier. I made one attempt without removing but could see the +ve terminal was going to get in the way unless I had a helper....

How is the throttle body reset done on our cars? After searching around various VAG forums, there seems to be quite a few different ways.

One that involves VAG-COM, one that involves turning the ignition on for 2 minutes but not starting it and another one 5 seconds with accelerator pedal down with ignition on but not starting and a couple of others!

So which is it for a 2001 S8? I don't have VAG-COM so obviosly would like to know the 'poor man's' version!

Basically, I disconnected my battery for about 3 or 4 days while I charged the battery at 3.8A, then connected it back up to the car and have left it on trickle charge ever since.

MOT is tomorrow so if I need to do this TB reset, I need to do it l today! Don't want it potentially running rough for the MOT.

It's done automatically if the car detects it needs it - unless you force it with VCDS.

The automatic version just requires you to switch the ignition on for 10 seconds (actual figure is less but that'd be safe) without starting. Then fire it up. It'll need to be taken for a drive to allow the box and engine to re-learn settings but should be fine after a short-ish run

I just stuck a new batty in my car. Bosch type, 3 year warranty, £90.

Fitted perfectly and fair revived the car. Old batt was 11 years old......
