Default Small spring found under carpet, red herring or component?

Having taken the front passenger carpets out entirely to dry up what is probably rainwater from the scuttle I found a small spring about 11mm long.
It was lodged in one of the channels in the underfloor air ducts.

I can't think of anything it's missing from, but maybe someone will recognise it? Picture attached.

Otherwise I'll presume it's come in from outside but will still label it and add it to my collection of "bits possibly/probably S8-related" ...

The only similar springs I can think of are those inside some of the electrical switches. Have you perhaps had a broken B-Pillar (alarm/boot) switch at some point?

... Or maybe it's not from the car at all. A ballpoint pen perhaps?

mark anticipated my response. The B pillar switches are as fragile as anything and im sure there's a spring of that size in them.

(my first thought was that you had found a new source of water ingress causing the usual soggy carpet issue)

Good thinking folks. Definitely too large a diameter for a ball-point but size and strength very appropriate for a push-button switch. Too soft for a physical catch.

Could it be from a grab handle or coat hook?

That looks like the central core from the Y-Flux capacitor in the centre console. As long as you stay below 88MPH, you'll be fine until repaired.

Looks to me like the differential girdle spring from the upper cardinal grammeter. Likely you have a hydrocoptic marzlevane loose in the unilateral phase detractor. If you run basic settings on the novertrunnions it should replenerate itself

I seriously believe it is the return spring from the PO's nodding dog.
