Default Help! - accessing the battery to charge it when the boot won't open...

The title says it all really...my beloved D2 S8 has been sat on the drive for a wee bit too long (probably about three weeks, but it may be a bit longer). So my first task this morning was to put in on a trickle charge...

Unfortunately, it seems that the battery is so flat that I can't access the boot: the remote won't unlock the car, but I can unlock the drivers door manually with the key. Then I can't open the boot with the driver side door button, or the key manually in the boot lock - it will turn in the barrel, but doesn't do anything...

Any ideas, anyone?

Turn the ignition on and charge through cigarette lighter socket, at least will let you get some charge in so that you can open boot.

Or, if you want to get a bit more juice in you can remove the passenger mats and wooden panel and get a very solid connection to the battery on the incoming + feed there...

Main Key should work in the boot lock though as long as you turn it the right way and press in ??

It won't be the first D2 where the boot lock mechanism has become disconnected.

How does that work Ainar with 2 connections (+/ve and -/ve) for charging? I'm probably being a bit thick....

It's a bit damp round there . And me being thick again, are you saying just connect it to a positive feed there. Will it be obvious where that is?

..and it's giving no response, just tried it again, it turns easily enough, and is easy to push in, but has zero effect on the mechanism...

Hi tintin,

I had the same issue. The AA sorted it though. Try this:

Cheers all - wooden passenger plate now removed (without access to the crosshead screwdriver in the boot), and ready to attach my trickle charger to the thick wire, as mentioned by Ian. I'm just not sure if I should be attaching that positive or negative - or both? - to this terminal where the thick wire is?

Positive to the thick red wire, negative to ground.

Put a meter on the wires first and check the voltage/polarity, even a "dead" battery is unlikely to be at zero.
