might need some help David, noticed the last couple of times we have gone on holiday and the car is fully laden (and I mean fully, SWMBO doesn't understand the concept of travelling light) the warning light comes on, doesn't seem to be a problem at any other time, so its load related only, not really a pressing problem but would be good to know how to fix it

It happened after a jet washing session, I am hoping the arm has popped off and just needs a little repair!

The arm wouldnt just "pop" off, I'm afraid. Its securely attached. It was probably cracked around the little metal bearing insert and holding on for dear life until you hit it with the jet!

One answer is to get rid of SWMBO or suggest that she needs to shed a few pounds (of her luggage, that is. Having met her I know she is just a wee thing who can punch above her weight......) but the one you may prefer is to put VCDS on it, find out which one it is and then we can see what the issue is. Glad to help on my return.

Just had a quick look and both all attached and all visually seems to be in place. Time to grab a new one to fit this weekend I think!

When mine went, it wasn't a broken arm but corroded electrics. Apparently the water runs down the wire right into the connection on top of the unit and the plug rots. Might be worth a look to see if this is the problem and how far it's gone. You never know, a clean and a squirt of WD40 might do the trick.

OK had the warning light come on all the time, had the car scanned and seemed to point to short in front sensor. Had it replaced by my local mechanic and error cleared. I take it from comments on here I need to get it re-calibrated as well now?

cheers

Depends if you're getting a warning light when you turn the lights on - if you're not then nothing to do

I guess you do and as I have VCDS to hand - but not a clue how to re-calibrate the level sensors - I guess I'll have to find out how to do it!

Thanks David and Adrian, not getting any warning lights, but normally (ie before sensor replaced) when I switch on the lights the beam starts off low and then adjusts upwards, this doesn't seem to happen since sensor replaced. Mechanic chap is someone I have used on other cars in the family for a while and is very competent. He has Launch Diagnostic kit, and appears confident in using it, just need to let him know if it needs done or not

cheers again
