First is heat reflecting, other is noise insulating

Insulated glass may have a bit of a tint to it (I assume that means the UV reflective glass). I think the acoustic glass is probably normal stuff.

surely the "sticker of joy" on the spare wheel well and service book will tell all with a difference between the codes for each?

The 1998 A8 I had with the solar sunroof, and laminated reflective glass both in the side glass, rear glass and windshield was amazing for controlling heat. Even on the hottest day, it would remain the same temp as outside, if not cooler inside out of the sun.

The downside was that no radar detector worked inside the car, and cell phone service was terrible.

Seriously, if I got, or wanted to make a call, I had to open the sun roof, or roll down the windows to get a signal.

Another upside was the interior never sun faded much.

I think my S8 now has the same stuff, but it has a repeater antenna, so the cell signals are better than it was, and the windshield has been replaced with a non heat shield one, so the radar detector works too. (The prior owner commented to me when I was looking at it, that he replaced the windshield because it was cracked, and did not put the "solar" one it, and now had cell signals, and his radar detector worked....)

All my A8 or S8 cars have been pretty quiet, depending more on the road surface and tires than anything else.

Just thought that having started reading my newly arrived Delius Klasing book on the A8 that I would paraphrase what the book says on the glass:

"The new insulating glass reduces heat pentrating the car by 50%. There are 4layers - outer glass, infra-red heat insulating coating, ultra violet film, inner glass".

It goes on to say That "Whereas the A8 2.8 has conventional heat insulating glass , those on the A8 4.2 quattro are of a special type of insulating glass consisting of 2 sheets up to 2.5mm thick and a plastic foil 0.76mm thick sandwiched between them. A metallic coating is deposited on the inside of the outer sheet reducing sunlight pentration by >50% and lowering UV pentration to <1%. Lastly the new double insulating glass reduces the level of external noise ..."

So if you have the acoustic glass you have the best of both worlds.
