Thanks Mikki!
That's great, I'll put that bugger back in, its going to be fun trying to find where it goes if its on top of the bell housing. How do you even get a wrench in there?

I checked my records, the steering rack was the last job that was done, I didn't drive the car much since. So what ever they did it must have been them, unless the thing unscrewed itself.
Also they did not put back the 2 front quarter turn bolts for my undertray, or the bolts holding the standing heater exhaust, grrrr, thanks guys. I ordered some replacements from ebay.

Yes please send me the measurements for the other lower bolt, hopefully I can find something that fits.

The usual trick is a socket on a universal joint with a very long extension down the spine of the gearbox, although the one to the side can be reached from underneath, around the driveshaft. There's actually a surprising amount of space behind the engine - its just that you need to be Mr Tickle to get to it

Thanks for the tip!
I hope its the side one.

I can't wait to get intimate with the gearbox again
Already had a close encounter a few years ago when I replaced the reverse light sensor. That was fun! Something tells me this is the next level of difficulty.

What about ETKA? That has photos for most things.

I wouldn't worry about the missing one tbh. Not all implementations of the 01E gearbox have a bolt there anyway, plus the special S8 version is NLA anyway. Its possible to fabricobble one if it bothers you, but I'd just ignore it
What's special about S8 version? Are we talking about no 11 in diagram? It's been superceded with N10238204 and available on ebay as lot of 5 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-A...kAAOSwN6ldgWNo

That looks like the bolt for the auto. From memory the equivalent on the manual does not have a socket-head but the slightly odd flat head which locks in to the casting of the bellhousing, and is secured by a nut on the engine side. I'm not convinced that supersession is correct.

The only time I've seen this is on Vera's though, which was a few years ago so my memory may be faulty. I will check a manual gearbox tomorrow

Yes! Exactly that

Am I thinking of a different application of the 01E?

The ebay listing shows a lot of different models. Etka shows Allen head bolt for FL A/S8, multipoint for PF. A6 comes up with the same as 8, A4Q is the t-bolt as in ebay listing. No idea why the difference. Cannot get full model list where they are used, for some reason my Etka is not finding any N numbers in search/ATP

8 and 6 are 60mm, A4 is 50mm but there is the same style available in 60mm as well, don't know what model uses that.
