Default Mfsw relay location

Hello i am trying to retrofit tiptoeing controls to my mfsw but can’t seem to find the relay/module that I need t change. I already have the wheel installed. Does anyone know where it is located. I have already checked the passenger footwell and ecu/tcu box.

It should live in the footwell relay box as far as I know. The wiring diagrams should be in the Tech Dump and should show the location of it.

Do you mean tiptronic? +/-?

I'm sure I read somewhere (in this forum) that the wiring just parallels the +/- control on the gear selector. So is anything needed other than correct wiring?

That said, I know on my S8 that those steering wheels controls work all the time, even when in normal Drive mode, no need to move the gear selector first.
I have a late model with the PRNDS shifter, is that relevant or not? e.g. Gearbox ECU version?

On the standard steering wheel the tip buttons are just wired in parallel with the switches in the shifter. On the MFSW they are wired in to the module in the steering wheel which then talks to the module in the relay box, which then sends on the relevant commands to the radio or TCU, I think via canbus although not 100% on that. It might be wired in to the shifter - I'd need to check the diagrams.

Following on from this other thread about relays (and their location):

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=16668

and also a LHD model, positions 3 and 4 (the two central ones) are labelled as 'Control unit for multifunction steering wheel' or ''Control unit for multifunction steering wheel for vehicles with telephone'.

As per steamships post, i seem to recall they live behind the drivers knee panel above the pedals.

They look like relays, but are actually control modules.

To add tiptronic MFSW to a car with MFSW, you will need to change the steering wheel (already done by the sounds of it), change the control module, and then run connections from the control module carrier to the tiptronic controls on your gear shift so the up/down control works.

I did a heated, tiptronic, MFSW retrofit to an S8 with the standard 3 spoke tiptronic wheel many, many many moons ago but for some reason the details seem reasonably fresh in my grey cells !
