AMI retrofit soon hopfully
Should be getting a full retrofit kit soon,
Looking back at previous posts the wiring loom may require some modification to enable it to be recognised as Mediaplayer 2 when retaining the CD Changer. I want to retain the changer, I know someone has done this before so looking for advice on which pins on which connectors need to be connected to enable this. I know it should just work, but someone in the past had issues with VCDS alternating between the changer and AMI because they were both coming up as mediaplayer1.

That was me. When you get your retro fit kit check the wiring loom. If it's as below then it's good to go.
If both plugs are wired with 3 pins then you need to add a pin to location 4, which is a simple loop off pin 1.

Mine went in without modifications, just followed the instructions for which plug went where. The CD changer is still there and working alongside the AMI

I've fitted AMI to every D3 I've ever had, and just used a simple Y splitter cable for power..... Never had any issues other than needing a firmware update on the MMI which is easy enough.
I wonder if Matty just got a bit of a poor retrofit kit...?

I followed Matty's instructions because I had read somewhere that someone was having problems selecting AMI positively. The loop connection to pin 4 resolves this.
Ii seems that the correct kit comes with the extra pin in the plug marked AMI. From IT's experience it seems that we are maybe overworking this. Final upshot is that mine worked first go and continues to do so. Wish you a happy update.

Or.. update to 5570 as there will be no more updates.
Pull out the changer and slot the AMI in there.. let's you keep the little cubby in the glovebox too. It's what I did with my 2 D3's.

I am going to retain the changer, why I hear you ask. I still buy a lot of CDs when out shopping, and if I am out on the road will buy the odd one when I feel like a change. Wihout the changer I'd have no way of playing it.
I don't intent to use the AMI with an iPhone or IPod, it will have a USB HDD plugged in with the music ripped at a decent bit rate, not sure if the AMI can play FLAC encoded files which most of my music collection is.

I am now waiting for the kit to be delivered (no its not the one sold by Ian), I was hopeful it was going to make it for the weekend but that now looks unlikely.
I'll check the loom, but if the loop to pin 4 is missing, I'll need to try and source the pin and short length of wire locally.
