As you are so close I would recommend Ben at AV performance.

I drive from Plymouth to have him work on my 8s. If you join the A8oc, you get a cracking discount as well.

Thanks for the Ben's contact, Conan.

I'm just looking at term "close" from logistics perspective: When you drive all the way to Burton from Plymouth do you stay overnight or return home by train for a day or so? I guess it's nearly impossible to make a round trip and service the car during one day.

Ben does a lot of work on my cars so I generally take a local B&B. But he can complete a major service in a day so it is possible to get there and back, just depends on his parts providers getting it right!

I suggest you contact him, tell him Mike from A8oc sent you and discuss you needs. He is ex-Audi and a proper motor mechanic and engineer, not one of these 'technicians'. He will not disapoint you.

Great Conan.
This is exactly what I wanted. I'll contact Ben and book an appointment with him.
Thank you so much.

OK, removed the trim. This is easy. All your need is your bare hands, as I think if you use any instrument to pry off the trim you you risk to damage the glass. If you just hold the trim firmly with fingers and pull it hard enough it will come off.

Start from lower edge of the trim. Hold it with your fingders and lift it to the direction perpendicular to winscreen. When it came off the first retainer go to the next one. There are 10 retainers riveted to casis of the car. 3 on each A-pillar, plus 4 on the roof.

Below are 3 pictures of retainers after old trim had been removed and area below the trim had been washed. Fortunately for me, there was no rust there. On the first picture you can see first retainer, which is about 10 centimiters from egde of the trim. All in all, removing this trim is not very difficult.
