Default Embedding Pictures Within the Text

Hi All,
I am starting this thread in the hope that we can clarify how to "embed" pictures in your messages.
I can add photos, but only as the small clickable versions at the end.

I would like to have them showing in the message so that if I do a "How2ToDoIt" write up I could position the pictures in the correct place in the text.

I have found a way to put the links to the photos just where I want them in the text but I would really like the picture to be there.

Hoping that you can teach me something, Thanks.

Please remember that I am even older than I used to be, the grey matter is very sluggish and I need my hand held. I now need all the "i's" dotting.

Ray

can I just add - that before anyone DOES embed pictures can you please reduce the size of them to something that fits the normal page width because if you link to a HUGE picture it blows the whole thread out to that width and makes viewing for all very difficult especially on smart phones and tablets - THANKS!

The attached pic shows what happens when the image isn't re-sized!

Thanks Neil,
These are the finer points that I am trying to gather in one place so that as well as myself our new friends will be able to understand. Hopefully this will help the forum.
I know what I want to do is possible because I have read some very good descriptive threads here where the writer has in effect titled the photos. But as Neil has pointed out these are sometimes physically too large.

So for example Rays sig pic - >>>>.

embedding pictures no longer working for Dezzy, it just pastes the link in the post, not the picture

can the forum software not be set to automatically resize them on upload? It's a ball ache doing it with other software first just to post it here. I've used GIMP but it's about 20 mouse clicks for each file just to resize.....

From a PC, I'd recommend using Imgur: http://imgur.com

No registration or login required, just upload, Edit, Resize, Apply, Save .... then copy the link. Being externally hosted, the images will save the forum some bandwidth and storage space too.

Better still, if you use FireFox, there's an add-on that enables you to rehost an image posted elsewhere to Imgur with just a couple of clicks:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir.../rehost-image/

I believe there are a few similar add-ons available for Chrome too.

EDIT: An example of how quick and easy it is to rehost using the FF add-on ....

1) Right-click the image and select Rehost ...

2) Then right-click and paste the url from your clipboard using the forum image insertion dialogue or simply add the IMG tags manually:

And viola! ...
