Just put some of the very same eBay quantum into a D3 today, cost £20 per 5L and came direct from Cardiff and Bristol Audi lol

Quantum is the same as Edge ... The former is the brand for the trade and Edge is for consumers. I use to work for Castrol

Don't go off viscosity readings and use the spec from the handbook - people put in the wrong oil so often because they buy on viscosity without checking the spec.

These are approved for the AQH engine FYI:

Castrol Quantum: http://ew5.earlweb.com/recommendatio...model=Audi+s8+

Castrol Edge: http://applications.castrol.com/oils...kw)-(1999-2003)

Shell Helix: http://lubematch.shell.com/gb/en_GB/...4_2i_EFt8Pdysj (shameless plug )

For our engines I would always use fully synthetic...

Thanks,
As I said before, those oil recommended sites all disagree with each other. All it takes is typing error and people are putting the wrong oil in!
I've tried the quantum, and millers nanotechnology any I wasn't amazed by either so I thought I'd give castrol edge 5w40 a go as it meets the specs. It's now moch quieter on startup, but I'd still like to change the oil retention valves can't seem to get into vagcat though to get the part numbers
Cheers for your research and views
Dave

I'm going to get to try two different oils in my car in the course of the next couple of weeks. Tomorrow, I'm having an EDT treatment and that garage use Mobil 1 ESP 5w30.

In a couple of weeks time, the car is going in to Audi for a service and they're going to use Shell Helix 0w40. They tell me the thinner oil works better in performance cars, so it'll be interesting to see.

I have a feeling I won't be able to tell the difference. Modern cars run so well in such a variety of different conditions, my guess is they feel the same from the driver's seat.

Castrol edge is on special offer again at tesco £25 don't bother going to hill stores Oldham I've had them all. Oil seems good so far seems quieter from a cold start than my previous oils (quantum, millers nanotechnology, and shell. But these were 0w30 5w30 I think.
I still want to change my oil check valves does anybody know the part numbers?
I still can't get onto vagcat
Cheers Dave
