S8 servicing costs
Just wondering what sort of costs are involved for those major services, eg cambelt and gearbox (I can do fluids & filters). I'm thinking about reputable specialists not Audi.
Also, how about discs & pads replacements? (I can fit these too)

Thanks but...
The prices listed on there don't appear to reflect the costs associated with a belts service of some of the S/RS cars.

S8 shouldn't cost any mroe to service than an A8 really, most of the consumables are the same.
My independent charges around £120 for the oil service, £200 for the Inspection 1 and a fraction higher for the Inspection 2. Gearbox fluid/filter change (recommended 40k or so) is about 250-350 depending on garage.

Full cambelt service ranges from about £400 upwards.
Might be better to find a local garage near you and ask them for prices.

Sounds very reasonable. Was looking at another thread earlier where it says that Audi charge 'only' £660 for a full cambelt service.

Be very careful when choosing who does your belt. The A8's belts (V6 or V8) need the tension setting whilst the cams and crank are locked in position but the pulleys can turn freely. This ensures the belt tension is correct whilst still maintaining perfect cam timing. If the belt is fitted without doing this, when the belt tension settles on it's first revolution, the cam timing goes out! And with inlet cams that can vary thier timing by upto 30degrees in operation that's BAD!!!!
Best case is the car loses power and just feels a bit weak and fuel consumption increases, but worst case is clipped valves! If there are tip-ex marks that line up the outside diameter on your timing belt pulleys with the black metal cover behind them that's a sure sign it's fitted wrong wrong! |
