Default Presumed dead fuel pump - HELP

Hi Guys,

Looks like further to Audi dealer hell, a small LPG guy has tested stuff and gotten things back to the fuel pump as well. He says there is voltage at the pump but its not turning over. New fuel pump time...

However a quick call to A8 parts and they don't have one.....and if they did it would be £300 !!!

They said Audi are like £700

But either way. lack of fuel pump and as such my car is off the road !

Any sugestions. Help Etc ???

I'm surprised at the cost, someone isn't refurbing them ?

Its a 2000, D2, S8.

Ta,
Lee

Sounds a bit steep to me too. I think I paid around £300 for a Bosch 044 Motorsport high flow fuel pump for the S4.

Do you know what the spec is? litres/hr, pressure, in tank or external? Perhaps there is an alternative??

Hi There,

I have no idea on spec or even model number at the moment.....I would have thought there were other options. Maybe a tuning part or something ???

Its a 2000/2001 - 4D2 - AVP - FBG - EUU by what i know.

When I called Audi 2 weeks ago when sorting Tonupkids A, the pumps were £380+VAT new. They are dear as they come with a whole delivery unit (still too much) but looking at the unit you could replace it with a Bosch motorsprot pump which cost around £140 ish. You'd just need to actually remove the pump from the delivery unit and wire the new one in. Not tried but looks possible to me.

Also, just make sure that it's not just the wires from the unit top to the pump itself. Usually is the actual pump but worth checking as I have seen before where the 2 wires from the plug at the top to the pump can break of go high-resistance.

Hi There,

Curious. Audi Peterborough (I'm not touching Huntingdon) say its £380.55+vat for a Kit including pump and gaskets, so £440. However its not in the UK, 3-5 days from Germany.

Part No. 4D0 298 087B

doing a web search brings

http://autoparts.wreckedexotics.com/...tric-fuel-pump

Also doing a search seems to bring other fuel pumps in the 100-170 bracket....What am i missing ???

cya,
Lee

Lee,

I'd take note of what Ben's saying. What he doesn't know about our 4-ringed beauties, isn't worth knowing, and probably doesn't exist

hi all,
i posted this list on tsn a couple of days ago for someone else with fuel pump problems. i studied the pump problem quite alot as mine has a small crack giving petrol smell when filled all the way up, and pump bolt will spin in its nut housing deep in the tank, common prob as described in the aw posts, requires special 1" by 12" long hole saw to cut through plastic housing surrounding pump to remove assembly, also always have 10 to 20 litres left in tank when runs out of petrol, which is seal on cup at bottom of tank, and gives different gauge readings at diff times, due to left/right sending unit calibrations i suppose. all of us d2 a8 owners will have to learn about this audi design fault eventually. i think the bare pumps can be bought at bba-reman.com for about £100, but do not come with complete housing.hope to see you guys at bens open day sunday. john

Hi There,

Tony, By Ben i presume you mean AVp - My mechanic guy is taking the pump out today. I passed him the Elsawin instructions and hopefuly he won't have the captive nut spinning issue.

We will pop the pump from the housing and bench test it to check. I doubt its the wires as i think it stems from running low/out due to battery/guage problems. Worth a check though.

Once out we can check models and search for just a pump. Audi quoted me 380.55+vat, but pumps seem to be 100-150ish. Some places think Bosch others seimens ???

I know the Audiworld people think siemens and quote a link to the UK....but they don't mention my S8 AVP engine code and mention 96-99...So its a tad confusing.

Thanks guys,
Lee
