Attacked Botangs hole today
well i tackled the belly of the beast and not sure how i did really i found said hole and it was covered with like a black papery thing looked like the spoil from a big hole punch, any way i came across 2 wires in the glove box that seem to lead no where at all thats the below image when i removed the glove box
 under the glove box      thats the little blighter i think still not 100% sure but will soon see if the misses gets another foot spa

On those wires that lead nowhere, I know that some of the earlier looms were wired for all extras ie. they used a full loom as standard in every car then they later gave in to cost saving and started using bespoke part looms depending on options, so it might just be that you have an earlier and therefore fuller loom without a particular option plugged in.
(waits for others to tell him he's wrong . .. lol  )

 They are part of the glove box light circuit that switches on the light when you open it.

i think that may well be the case then IT as there is no light in the glove box, a simple fix with a quick call to A8 parts should see me a new bulb housing

It was the 1996 and early 1997s that came pre wired for extras they may not necessarily have.

For what its worth I doubt that itll fix your issue, it sounds like your aircon drian tubes are blocked, they are the two bright orange ones that run either side of the transmission tunnel near the ashtray. take out the carpet sections that fit to the transmission tunnel and they will be obvious.
