Afternoon All
Appologies for resurecting an old thread but I thought I would counsel some opinions
My old girl (2007 3 litre d Sport) is in for a service today with a local independant in Tamworth Staffs. I have been un decided should I keep hold of her or look for a new 8 as the mileage is building quickly and I know people have this thing about the "magic" 100K on a car in this country which appears to affect values when trading in etc.

In case I do hold on to her I mentioned to them when dropping her off this morning about the gearbox fluid change requirements and he suggested they should be done at regular intervals and he quoted me around £200-250 for the job of new filter and fluid. Also mentioned he would need to get the right equipment in for the job as they share the gear with their other location. I believe this is a machine to suck/pump in the fluid for the change ?
Is this a fair price for the work and materials involved? Whilst I will have a goo at most things I am not keen to do this job tbh and it seems to be something best performed on a lift which I don't have access too.

I have noticed the down changes are occassionally more "noticeable" now as I pull up. Not jerky but certainly not as smooth as they should be. The car has done 92K now and as far as I know never had the gearbox serviced.

I haven't booked her in for this yet but is there anything I should be asking or watch out for.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help
Cheers Glyn

That seems areasonable price for gearbox fluid and filter, about what I paid recently.
100K is nothing on these cars.

Agreed it's a fair price - the oil isn't cheap and the kit sounds like the proper gear to pump all the old fluid out, which is considered preferable to a drop out what you can and refill job. Mine had the latter and it did improve the shift quality, although it's done half the mileage of yours

I would agree that it's a fair price considering the amount of fluid on a full flush and that they are using the sucky pumpy squirty thingy to do it

Just make sure that Ben Williamson has nothing to do with the independent garage, he lives up round that area somewhere I think

Thanks for the replies

The Indy I am using is Lion Garages http://www.liongarage.co.uk/index.php
They did my brakes for half the Audi price using OEM pads and the service is half the Audi price too. The chap there seems to know his stuff from what I have seen so far.
No leather sofa's chrome finishings or free coffee though!

I know they are good for well over 100k, you would be hard pressed to guess the mileage of the car without a close inspection. My only reason for considering a change is to act before the value drops away, but like everything there is no perfect solution to these things. Might hold fire till the D4 comes into range
I will probably hold on to her and look after her, I don't hammer my cars tbh and aside from the hankering after a 500hp V8 I love my 8 .

Thanks again I'll get her booked in for the treatment
cheers
Glyn
