When I fitted mine I did the pin 4 link first.
It seemed to work correctly but I had only just obtained my VCDS and knew nothing. My first scan resulted in many faults but for this thread, here is the relevant report. For both of these I had "No Fault Found".

Somehow I eventually managed to lose the "Not Registered". Cannot remember how I managed it.

OK none of this really helps but it might help someone to understand better.

The cable from the original MDI kit arrived today (sent from Germany), its also third party and missing the pin 4 loop.

I am therefore going to fit this cable set as its longer and much better quality. What I want to do therefore is remove one pin from the other one I am already using and place that in position 4. I'll split the wire sleeve and then solder the two together away from the connector block.

The new cable has brown, orange and blue wires, I just need to establish which one is pin number 1 to create the loop. And also how to extract the wire from the connector block without the correct tool.

Looking at the picture on page one, I have orange on top with brown on the bottom and blue is on its own to the left.

I am also going to use the fibre loop from this kit because once again its longer than the one I am using currently.

Hi Manny
There should be tiny numbers on the plug stating at least first and last pin in each row.

You can make an extraction tool from a paper clip but fairly big/thick one so it's not too soft, straighten it and then u bend it so the two ends touching each other and there is a but if tension

This us just a quick idea I've had after finishing reading your post, can't tell if it will work, but can't see why not if the clip is fairly thick.

Good luck

Grrrr... what luck to receive an identically wired cable. At least it's an easy mod to add that extra pin.

I've labelled the pin positions to help you.

Ironically, when I bought a loom for the DAB a 4 pin wired cable arrived - which I didn't need...

Good luck

A year too late... but here's confirmation of Pin 4 in the Current Flow document.

Interesting, yours shows 2 discrete separate wires going to ground, where the one I was looking at last week showed literally a piggy back from pin 4 to 1.... Same net result, maybe I was looking a later model year....

Right

Hopefully all sorted, found some spare time at work.

Popped out to the car and removed one power cable, found I could not get the paperclip to extract the pin. So plan B was implemented, and after 15 mins using a scalpel and cutters, I had the required pin intact in my hand.

Stripped a section of sleeving from the brown wire going to PIN 1 AMI on the new power loom, inserted the other PIN into 4 and soldered the two wires together. Applied some electrical tape and job done.

I've plugged it all back in, AMI and CD Changer are both working. Not yet scanned the car to see if the faults I had are cleared, I'll do that later.

Also need to deal with all that wiring, the fibre cables are so long its proving difficult to get everything back in without applying to much stress on the fibre. I do have a second fibre cable if one gets damaged though.

Sounds to me like a job well done

You can buy this conduit in split form to protect the optical fibre.

Of course I now have a spare good fibre loop, and no associated power loom because in effect I ended up destroying one of the connectors to get the wire to fix the other one.
