CV Boot replacement
Had a blow out and grease all around the inside of the wheel.
Can get Bilstien gaiters for £15, no name for £5. Anyone used generic gaiters?

Never used them on the '8, but have on previous motors and not noticed any difference, but then again, probably never had them long enough afterwards. I'd think you'd still get plenty of life.
But for a tenner, is it worth the chance? |

Er.. I did - and I don't see anything that says Gaiter replacement ?-Plenty of stuff about drive shafts and axles but can't see where it tells you how to remove the gaiter when one is split - assuming its part of taking the drive shaft out but don't see that comprehensively described either!?
** Update** - Found a CV replacement post by using the groovy Google search - which took me here Technically this post is in the wrong section - should be moved to Axles and Steering with the other CV stuff? Last edited by harpersimon; 30th January 2009 at 09:28 AM. |

thats criminal, its a 2 hour job max
id say if your thinking of doing it and not taken the upper control arms out before then get a new long bolt that holds them in they can become damaged trying to get them out, or take the wheel off a day before and spray them with a releasing fluid such as wurth rost off
