I'll take a look at it again later tonight as it's way too hot during the day. Last night I was sweating like crazy getting the fuel pump assembly back into the tank. Then I called it quits because I was getting very frustrated not being able to get that fuel line square to thread in the banjo bolt.

I did manage to get the fuel line square and got the banjo bolt installed. I bought a inexpensive inspection camera so I can take a look to see if I got the fuel pump assembly fuel line adapter (the part with the orange o-ring in my picture below) installed correctly but I'm struggling to find its exact location with the inspection camera . I even opened up the other side of the fuel tank access which I found out has the fuel float device and still having troubles trying to find the fuel pump assembly fuel line adapter. I just want to make sure I have it installed correctly before I finish this pain in the rear fuel pump job.

What I found is if the pump drops into the tank nicely, chances are the small suction line adapter will drop into the receptacle neatly.
If that is misaligned, the pump assembly will be misaligned and the whole shebang won't sit right in the tank. If its dropped in nicely, and the arrows have lined up on the top of the tank near the fuel lines, and the long bolt drops in nicely and does up with fingers, I'd say you've got it right. I remember using my inspection camera to double check myself when i did mine - its hard to find, and took some time with lots of pulling the camera out and adjusting the neck before reinserting, attacking from the left hand tank level sender hole. You need a goods mind eye on where to locate it once the pump assembly is in the tank.

Thanks for the info. I do have the pump assembly in there aligned correctly as it sits flat/square. I didn't really look to see if the arrows lined up at the top of the tank near the fuel lines. I just want to see if I have it correct with the inspection camera for a piece of mind. I'll take a look again this weekend.

Here are some shots that I took which show the 'funnel' that the fuel line adapter sits in. Hopefully you can get some perspective from these. Pictures have uploaded to this site upside down unfortunately so the Front of the car is towards the bottom of the screen. I hope that makes sense.

I spent about 30 minutes trying to see if I got fuel line adapter in the funnel with no luck so I gave up.
Does this connector plug in only one way? I didn't pay attention to the orientation of this connector when I unplugged it from the tube. How often does the left side fuel float mechanism fail? Last edited by Audifan; 9th November 2020 at 10:23 PM. Reason: switched picture to attachment |

Fuel float plug?
I don't think it matters which way around the wires are. I think they just measure a resistance to calculate fuel level. As for how often that one or the LHS one fail, I cant say for sure, but "not very often" would be my guess! I've read the dash takes a mean reading of both floats to determine tank level, however I don't see how the lever arm float in the LHS could give any reading above about half full, as the arm can't get there from what I recall. Could be mistaken, it's been about 5 years since I did mine! When I first came across it, I had thought the LHS might have been for low fuel warning, but if the suction jet pumps aren't working evenly and one side of the saddle has more fuel than the other, this then wouldn't be accurate, so the mean reading makes more sense from that perspective.

If anyone's interested. Just recently did this and that video wasn't much help at all. There's a youtube video tho in Russian, which shows... exactly how it's done. Slow it down, watch it a few times and, worked for me. One thing about that seal and cap, I found it's much easier if you lube up the large ring and cap threads with silicone lube, will allow smooth seating of the ring and tightening of the cap. Really don't need the special took for the cap, just tap it down with small hammer and maybe hard piece of wood so as not to damage the tabs? Needs to be quite snug or you'll get leaks and be smelling fuel. Mine wasn't tight enough, had to take it back out and lube up the parts, went smooth after that.

You really don't want silicone grease anywhere near fuel, even small amounts of silicone can contaminate O2 sensors and cats and prevent them from working correctly, engine oil would be better bet.
