Yes, she's gone to her new keeper. Generally don't keep cars very long but I was very impressed with the 8. Silly place to ask I know but .. what next? Logic says A8 3.0 Tdi but what's the consumption actually like on short trips? Need something that's going to give late 20's urban. My trip to work is short & urbanny...partly why she had to go.

How short?
If it's less than 5 miles, then you might as well stick with petrol, as such a short journey will foul up the DPFs in no time. And if it's such a short journey, why is consumption that important? Assuming a 10 mile return journey, 5 days a week, that's only 52 miles, so getting 30mpg instead of 20mpg will only save you about 4 litres of fuel a week - factor in the extra cost of the diesel itself, and the extra cost to buy a diesel, and the extra maintenance cost of a diesel (think injectors for example), then there is no point getting a diesel for a short commute. Have you considered two cars? Or a V8 and a moped for the commute? |

Do a lot of other spinning about too, weekends & stuff. REEAALLLYY had enough of using the wife's tin can....err sorry, Aygo. The 4.2 was getting through 2 tankfulls a month, £105 per fill up & 270 miles each! so if the tdi can give me 500 miles per £100 tank I'll be happy.
Will a good blast 2-3 times a week will keep the DPF's happy?

A decent length blast should keep DPFs happy, it needs to gethot enough for long enough for the process to work. Or you could get them removed and coded out.

I've never seen the superb fuel comsumption figures quoted on here with the 1000mile range etc. I'm lucky if it quotes 600 odd at a big fill up
