View Full Version : Auto-fold side mirrors?

Does anyone know if the folding wing mirrors can be set to auto-fold when the car is locked?

This may be something that can be coded from within Vagcom/VCDS? (just like you can toggle on and off functions such as auto-lock doors at 10mph, horn honk on lock, etc)

I don't believe this can be coded but I bet it can be can be hard wired.

Basically if you can simulate the effect of 'switching to fold' using the ignition, the initiator (a single relay would do) would mean you can have fold on ignition off/on.

Many thanks for the helpful reply +++

That would be pretty cool, wouldn't it?

Hi.

It definetely can not be coded. I have a module here, that makes the mirrors fold by clicking on the carkey, but I didn't get it in my S8 yet.
But @A8-Freunde are some guys that already have installed it.

Over the forum we got a good price on these modules and bought them.

How easy are the modules to fit for someone technically challenged like me...?

Agreed - I've mulled it many times, but never actually got round to it - There are 2 ways to do it really, on ignition, which is easy but would be annoying as they may fold after taking the keys out, but before checking for passing bikes etc before opening the drivers door. The second way would be via the central locking, which seemed plausible last time I theorised this route as the central locking (aka convenience unit) has *that* many connections coming out of it, you're bound to pick up a live pulse even if its just the hazard warning lights flash.

The drawback in my eyes is the potential for wear and tear on the folding mechanisms, which are prone to seizure and cog-wear, so an override switch to only make it work when attending parties, meets and other showing-off functions would be a must +++

I would love this, also just the headlight washers without the normal washers, any idea if this could be done?

Side note: When someone nicked the headlight washer of my old A8 when I sprayed the headlight washers the water went spraying in the opposite direction, sooo sooo much fun soaking my mates driving into school.

that could be funny as soon as you put the hazards (or indicators) on

the car might take off with all that flapping

Bang bang Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. . . . la la la la laaaaaaaaaa :D

I always thought it would be funny to connect a morris minor with the fold out flappy paddle indicators to a hazard warning light switch lol
