Just done the little trick of holding open the back box flaps and what a difference! Sounds really meaty now just ticking over! Will take her out in a bit and see what a difference it makes in the low rev range around town. 😃

You clearly have never met me yet than have you

You fancy next weekend, I'll ask Matt if he's up for it, he usually is.

I'll make a thread to see if any others are up for it too.

I do believe i have the whole weekend off so that would be fine with me!
I just went down my dads and he was so impressed he had me do his on the spot! 2 ice silver D3s in the family. He suggested going out to get some nice shots sometime.

Such an easy mod to make, I did it with a couple of large jubilee clips and find the difference is most noticeable on a cold start when it growls nicely for a good 30 seconds. +++

I'm flying back from America next Friday and haven't driven the S8 for almost 3 months so I am really itching to get behind the wheel again! So if I'm feeling OK jetlag-wise I'll try and make it.

What is this trickery??? Is it an S8 mod only?

Thanks. Thought as much. Jealous of all you V8 owners. Met up with someone yesterday and listened to his V8 A8. Bah what a sound. Addictive. Decision made. Next A8 I buy is 4.2 V8 diesel.

V8 diesel doesn't sound anywhere near as good as a V8 petrol.... But who cares when you've got over 800 NM of torque at your disposal. :D

Your right nothing like it! But with a stage 2 remap it still sounds mean and the torque!!!! :D
What's the mpg your getting out of it? Realistic on town driving?

Normal mpg is about 28 to 30 but can get up to 36 on a long, calm run. Didn't really notice any difference in economy after remap though.

That's a suprise. I'm getting 27 round town. Doesn't seem to be a difference between 3.0 and 4.2. Must be the remap that is saving you fuel maybe.

The difference (or lack of difference between 3.0 and 4.2 engines) could be down to driving style and conditions. Traffic can be different in different towns, cars weigh about the same so it takes the same amount of energy to get it moving and up to speed. Short runs on cold engine will use more fuel then if you keep driving on warm engine, tyre model, size and pressure can make the difference and other factors as well.

On the 2.5TDI A6 I am getting about 27mpg on short runs with cold engine, 30-35 short runs and around town on warm engine, around 40mpg doing 70-80mph on long runs on motorway and almost 50mpg on the long runs doing 40-50mph

If you click the Fuelly icon in my signature you can see every fuel up ever including mpg. I did the remap in about June last year. If anything the mpg went down after the remap. Wonder why....

My dads 06 S8 had a remap and the economy was worse than his newer one without a map. He is happy now he sees a slightly better average mpg.

I have always been sceptical of off the shelf remaps on naturally aspirated engines when there is no mods to the engine.

Forced induction is a different kettle of fish though.

Very much so. Unless you get an engine used in a few variants that is just detuned (N53 BMW engine comes to mind, gains over 40bhp in a 325i), gains on a standard N/A engine are never massive.

I'd love to have a play with some of the new VW diesels. One of the companies I work with have just finished developing their tune for the 3.0TDi used in the new A7 using one of Bosch's latest ECUs. Stock power 218bhp/500Nm, tuned 320bhp/680Nm.

Turbo power ftw!

Thats true on the 3.0 Tdi A7 Engine, put a tuning box on to mine when I had it and got 260bhp and 600Nm and still improved the fuel consumption as well slightly!! :D
