just about to tow a heavy load with my 2 tonne trailer , so checked imposed loads in the owners handbook
4% of laden weight minimum [must exceed 25Kg though ]to maximum of 95Kg was as expected but was a bit shocked to read no towing with L models [ which my 3.7 FL isn't ]

any suggestions why this should be ?

Because they have not been bothered to do any towing tests with D2L and without successfully completing tests they cannot offer any guidelines for it.

And I thought it was down to reduced chassis strength, due to the manufacturing process of the LWB!

There is a difference wether it's designed to be LWB from factory or if somebody takes a standard car, chops it in wto and then inserts middle bit to make stretch limo. Not to say that stretch limos(or factory LWB's) cannot tow but they are limited production run and small fraction of buyers would like to tow that cost of tests is too high. No tests done + no towing. It's the same with some medicines- they have not tested it for kids or for pregnant women so they will say not to be used for kids or pregnant women while it could be perfectly safe, they just don't have data because they never tested.
