Can anyone help with this small problem that i have ( no not that one ) When using my phone in the car my text messaging is just greyed out and messages are not displayed on my screen. I am using an Android phone and have just tried my sons Iphone and that does the same. Is this feature supposed to work ?

It'll be greyout if you are using the standard bluetooth audio/handset to the phone (most common)

For it to work, you'll need to have a sim in the dash so the car is the phone, or you will need to use rSAP to connect your Sim from your phone to the car, so again, the car becomes the phone.....

rSAP works on a handful of androids, most Samsungs notably, but no iPhones...

So just tried my other son's Samsung S20 and it did strange things to his phone but as far as i can tell it will work in my car. I just need to upgrade from my OnePlus5 to a newer phone that supports Rsap +++

When you connect a phone via rsap, the phone effectively gives its SIM to the car, so the phone no longer has an outside world connection.

To make it seamless, you then setup the wifi hotspot on the car, which shares out the data from the SIM contract, and you connect the phone to the wifi hotspot (along with any other devices you fancy).

The phone then accesses its normal stuff over wifi, including calls if it has wifi calling.

As a bonus, the phone is now using the cars external aerial, so the data signal it now gets over wifi is stronger than the connection it could have manged all on its own....+++

If you've a dual-sim phone like the oneplus, then it will be unlikely to support rSAP

So if this is the case then there would be no need for the data sim that i have in the car as each time i drive it would be using the phone data for online traffic updates and also use the phone as a Wi-Fi access point ?
This has now become an expensive upgrade as i have just ordered a Samsung S21 Ultra !!!

Just upgraded my phone to a Samsung S21 Ultra and it doesn't work. Very surprised about this as my son's S20 did work. Does anyone know if i can change some setting on my new phone to get it to work ?

Can't answer your question and I don't know how much you spent on the S21 Ultra but it might have been more cost effective to retrofit a CarPlay/Android Auto module which would bring other benefits also?

There are a few different types at different prices and I see on AudiWorld that the WAKAA seems to get mentioned the most but mine is an eWaying unit and to be honest they all seem pretty much the same unit to me.

The hardest part was getting the 5F back in because there's not a lot of room back there and you have to find space for the Quadlock adaptor harness.

Mine cost under £200 delivered although you could pay £455 or more so not sure how that might compare to a new phone cost?

Just a thought...

A couple of AudiWorld threads here if it might help;
