okay so the search for wheels continues......but when I do find someone who ships to Jersey they refuse as they are not sure the wheels will fit?!:Confused:

So to be sure, from the links etc on this forum I believe I need;

5 x 112
et 35-45
min wheel width of 8.5"
max wheel width of 9.5" (without modifying anything)
Max wheel diameter of 20" (again without any mods)

Tyres would be for 9.5x20"- 255/35 and 8.5x19" - 245/40

Correct???

Sorry its probably a basic question but just want to be 100% sure :o

Welllllllllll actually............

You have far more options if you play around with the dimensions a bit.
Have a read of this article (http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html) and you'll see what I mean.

You can play around with offsets and spacers, diameter and aspect ratio to achieve the same effect. The important thing is that you maintain the same rolling diameter front to rear within 1%. And the same overall rolling diameter to maintain speedo accuracy.

thanks this was really helpful + missed a thread started by singh that has a load of other info re tyre size options/spacers etc - also understand the how rolling diameter is affected which helps a lot!

also appreciate the offer to help me get some wheels here.......I have found a firm locally who will collect from UK and ship, waiting on some prices to see if it makes sense....failing which I may well end up having to ask for some help!

Okay, so I have found some wheels in the right price range and look, have also read all the posts etc on this so now understand rolling diameters, et, and so on......but just want to check my maths;

I currently have the OEM Avus 18" rims with a 245/45 tyre. Now I belive the et is 45 and they are 8J (couldn't pin down anywhere if they were in fact 8.5J???).

Anyway the wheels I have found are 19" (just couldn't find any 20's!!) but are 9.5J (mmm nice and wide :D) with an et of 35.

So.....if the current wheels are et45 this means the new ones at et35 will sit 10mm further out, now here is the tricky part as they are at least 1" (or possible 1.5") wider does that have to be added onto my calculations to work out how far out they will sit????:Confused:.

if so, I get 10mm + 25mm = 35mm (@1" wider rim) or;
10mm + 38mm = 48mm (@1.5" wider rim)

I think I have about 50mm at the rear to play with before they come out too far from under the arches (and nearer 80mm at the front). Looking through the threads I have seen that at least someone is running 10" rims at the rear so it can be done, although the et may be 45 or more which is why they fit. Unfortuntaley, if I order them there is no going back as I can't return the wheels back to the UK....the deal is that if I buy and they don't fit its tough, hence the need for some reassurance!

The wheels will fit fine. I am running 20 x 8.5J et 45 with 15mm spacers
making my final et 30. Which size tyres do you intend to run?

re tyres not sure..........thinking of 245/40 to keep the rolling radius almost exactly the same, although could go to a 255/40 I guess.......I'm am concious that I need to balance the rolling raduis vs trying to get a 'low profile' tyre look whilst also trying to fill the arches without spending more money (I don't have right now) on a coliover kit.

Open to any other creative suggections as to other options on tyres though - I did see that Singh wnet for 285/30 on a 20x9 rim which I bet looks good!

245/40x19 is the very minimum you can put on a 9.5J rim. It'll not look as fat as you might hope.

You could go to a 285/35x19 on the rears and a 255/40x19 on the front for a slightly staggard look. They are within tolerance of the quattro @ <1% (-.66%).

9.5 with et35 fits without any problems, had this setup last year with some 20" rs6-wheels +++

also, great advice on the tyre choices.........hadn't considered being able to get a staggered look by playing with tyres as I thought it would confuse the quattro, so I think I'm definitely going to go for the 285/35x19 rears 255/40x19 front set up..............now wheres my credit card!
