View Full Version : Gas strut failure?

Hi

After the local mechanic in France was playing about in the boot [rear light failure in the lid] he replaced the wires in the clip alongside the boot lid gas strut. Next time I opened the lid it was a little heavy and now instead of closing gently it slams!:( Can he have broken it/them? Do the struts suddenly fail? or maybe its because its been very cold recently and they will recover. Can they be repaired/adjusted or must they be replaced?

Grateful to hear any thoughts.

I understand that this type of strut can lose effectiveness during cold weather. I'd wait until it warms up a bit before spending any money on the problem.
