Hi Guys, quick question...

I have an Audi A8 4,2 quattro D2 from 1994

I have bid on an auction for some 10 spoke parallel design 2012 A8 original rims size 265/40-20R... and I have won it, approx 2600 USD
These : http://www.motortrend.com/photo_gallery/sedans/1109_2012_audi_a8_photo_gallery/large_photo_15.html

I am afraid they might be pushing the envelope

Can you tell me if this can even fit on a D2?

Thanks in advance

edit: Rims are 9''x20''

Not sure about the tyres however for the alloys, which look awesome...you need to find out the pcd and the spigot size (the central hole that sits on the hub spigot)....

The pcd you need for the d2 is 112....I have a feeling the spigot size might be slightly larger than the spigot size on our d2 hub...However you can get adapters so the wheels will centre properly on the hub...They are about 10 pound for 4 so not too expensive....

Really the important thing to check is the pcd of these wheels....if you can get the part number then you will be able google it....

Thanks for the feedback, much appricated:)

pcd 112 is a check
spigot size on d2 is 57.1 mm(metric millimeter)... should be the same on all A8 models I believe.
also the ET(of 37) is good as D2 has ET 40 original... theres no doubt in my mind that the rim itself will fit perfectly, my concern is that the tire of 265/40 on a 20'' rim, might be too big for the D2??

I ran 4x Michelin Pilot Sport 285/30/20 tyres on my D2 S8 no problem.

Yeah, I can see from this: Tire options (http://www.audipages.com/upgrades/tiresizeoptions.html)

That your wheels(285/30-20) had a diameter of 26.7 inches(well within the green range), but the 245/40-20 is one inch more, so I am guessing the 265/40-20 might be 1 1/2 inch more?

I have asked on all kinds of forums and it seems that I have to find out the hard way... fitting the wheels(when they arrive) and see if its possible.

But thanks for the answers+++

265/40/20 is too big :(
But you own them now so i suppose your options would be run them on your car and be carefull about your speed as you'll be travelling faster than your clock says or sell them (if you can) and replace with the right size.

The difference between a 265/40/20 and 245/45/18 is 42mm over the dia. 6.19%. 285/30/20 and 245/45/18 is 1mm 0.15%

265/40 is going to give a lot of speedo error compare to the required tyre size on 20" rim even if you could get them on.

that all checks out Jake as others have said but you may well need to put 10 or 15mm spacers on your front wheels at least. Singh's 9" wheels were on a later S8 which had a slightly different brake and suspension set up to earlier FL cars and all PF cars (which yours is) - it is possible you will get some rubbing on the inner edges if you dont space them but as long as you are aware of this then its the worst case scenario that you might need to do this.

You also need to check the thickness at the hub to make sure that you dont need longer wheel bolts but again you can do this once you have the wheels there and measure against the existing ones.

Great wheels - they look great on a D2 I think one of the German A8 Freunde guys has already used them too!

They also fit D3's -

Thanks everybody for the advice, it will be delivered with the original wheel bolts, so these should be sufficient I think.

Spacing the wheels is not legal in Denmark, but with the ET37.. isnīt the wheels moved further outwards?

Looks damn good on that D2:):):) is it 20 also?... Iīm guessing his tire profile might be less than 40 though;)

In that case I would keep the new tyres to 255 35 20's that way you'll reduce risk of a wider tyre catching and as you see below the difference between those and the 18" sport wheels is minimal and within tolerances -

In that case I will go with some illegal spacers instead... donīt really have a budget for another Ģ1200 for tyres this summer:)

Cheers for the good advice, No D2 owners in Denmark it seems... atleast not advice-giving ones+++

I guess it is too rare in Denmark because of price. I used to live in Denmark 2000-2003. Can't recall seeing much if any A8's back then.

I bought German import A6 C4 without Danish tax back then in auction in Vejle and there were not many A6's around either most you could see were German tourists. I paid around 40 000 DKR( in 2001) for 1994 A6 and it would have cost over another 100 000 DKR to register it in Denmark.

Anyway back to tyre size. Sergey uses higher profile 245/50R18 tyres without problems so you might get away with 265/40R20 as well just try them and you will see. If your A8 is with standard suspension then hope is higher.

I had 275 35 all round on my preface lift but the front tires were rubbing on the inside...the rears were fine..the 265 shouldnt rub on the inside...however it's whether you hit the hub knuckle at the top...the difference in rolling diameter is about at 2 cm...which means you need an extra 1cm over what I had at the top...which you might just manage...

Thanks for all the input guys, I have a positive feeling about it... :) although my past with cars has been somewhat of a mixed bag, so hopefully my luck is turning... This A8 has turned it around as of now... with no problems and just a damn joy to drive:)

Gasoline expensens, insurance and other funstuff like maintanence prices... are not gonna ruin that!

They look cracking Jake. Did you have to get spigot rings? My understanding is the spigot on the D4 is 66.x mm

Hi Tony

Yeah but I was in luck there(as I didnīt know) but my 17'' winter rims has the same spigot-hole(is that a word?) so the rings from those fit right on the 20'' s:):)

Just got the wheelbolt-lockables(just making up words here;)) from Audi with a 50% discount!!

When I did the repair/maintenance at Audi, I got 50% off on everthing(parts/labor) and apperantly they keep giving me this discount even tho I didnīt ask for it+++

SO I'm a happy camper regarding the whole 20'' adventure.

Just cleaned 2 of them, used autosol on the polished parts and did a complete rim-"sealeant" to keep them fresh(similar to nano-coating I guess)

It took over 3 hours, so due to bad weather and time I have to do the last 2 another day.

Cheers

I've liked these particular alloys for a while and of the shortlist of 20" rims available should I choose to go down this route over the 22" option then these made it as the favourites on my list also. I've got a SWB Black D3 facelift and here is how they look on mine and I think that is the way to go.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/v/t1.0-9/10443310_10152290153461716_2084539436280194511_n.j pg?oh=ce3ce34645b882b3443daea81e868c90&oe=545D2CCF&__gda__=1416141864_50320243c682e1f7249d257475a2f6f f

However your wheels look some how different to those in this picture, I'm loving the look of your wheels but prefer this and wondering what the difference is as I can't quite work it out, is in the profile, or what?

Obviously if I could have these in 22"s I would be over the moon and a dead cert, as they're Audi replica wheels, and to have them in a OEM look but on an oversized rim appearance would be great.

Regards, Mark.

Hi Mark, the picture you are posting is a photoshop... not actually on the car. That explains why it looks wrong, those rims in 20" does not look that big on a D3. Smaller profile suggest that its replicas as these comes in 255/30-20 instead of 265/40-20(which mine are) you can see these driving around on golf Vīs and the like... tasteless in my view:)

Also I have fitted Alloygators now which makes them look 20.5"+++

Cheers

One more answer... you might mean the shine of it? mine are polished on the spokes and they do shine... but the ones you have posted is from a professional taken picture... they can do stuff with lighting that makes the same thing look different.

There is an option which has polished spokes and antracit paint inside, which makes the polished parts stand more out.

I saw some replicas on a brand new A6 the other day... sad he didn't opted for originals... they do look nicer:) )they were 19''s... sad:tuttut:
