As some of you know, the key wasnt being recognised by the car and was suggested that the battery in the fob needs replacing.
Well, due to issues with my leg I have not used my car since Monday and today had to get something from the car.

Pressed the door open on the plipper, door unlocks so get what I need.
Close the door and press lock on the plipper, nothing.

Has the battery gone finally on the remote. Replace the battery with a known working battery and still nothing.
Replace the battery in the spare plipper and nothing.
Try to lock the door using the key - nope.

Puts the spare in the ignition and guess what, car wont start but also the key wont come out........

What to do now :(

Sussed the key. Little blob on the barrel, push that in and turn the key anti-clockwise (keeping theblob pushed..) then the key pops out.

Looks likd the battery is flat so going to try and trickle charge it.

Uh oh... Sounds very similar to the issues I had in my PF.

Have a good check under the carpets for water ingress as well, I had similar issues with the entry and start system along with the appearance of a flat battery.

Hopefully it's just the main battery giving you some gremlins.

Just checked the main battery - 5.5 volts......:tuttut:

Trickle charger running so hope it will be sorted. Will try in a few hours to see where its at.

Hope its nothing serious, got me paranoid now because my key has been playing up too, and it aint a low battery.

I drove all the way to kent yesterday and on the way back i got the symbol up on the dis to say there was no key present while driving

The wifes key seems to be fine though and i have replaced the key battery in my key twice. Only had the car two months.

Hopefully just a poorly fob for you.

Question, got a solar trickle charger that yoh plug into the cigarette lighter socket.
Would this be ok to us in the D3 while its not used for long periods?

Also the trickle charger is going down and not up.
Can hear the relay click in charger then I here a whiring noise from the car then the relay clicks off. Whats all that then?

And other 'also'.
Managed to lock all the passenger doors ok.
The drivers door won't - followed the manual ant it will not lock......
It says to lift up the handle, turn the key clockwise then pull the key out, release the handle then close the door.......
Any other advice?

Can you get a VCDS scan? Might be the battery ECU acting up.

I'd charge the battery completely disconnected from the car and see where that goes, also makes sure that all devices are shut down.

Not sure if the fag lighter socket remains live after its locked and went to sleep etc, plus the car may well isolate that if the battery is low.

Can you not jump start the car the go for a run to get some real amps pumped back into the battery.

You may have systems trying to wake up with the battery charger connected slowing the process if you know what i mean.

Cant jump start as reversed on the drive so not possible:(
Will pul the battery off tomorrow and see if any juice can be pushed in.

Cant do VCDS as nothing when ignition powered on:(

Disconnected the battery and left on trickle charge for most of today and it works :)
Have connected the solar trickle charge via the cigar lighter socket so lets see how it goes...

FYI - The solar charger through the front cigar lighter works :)
So, no more drained battery when I leave the car for long periods.

Cheers

Nope :(
Will get in touch with Audi and book it in to see if I need the update that Nick had on his.

If you've got power again, do a VCDS scan and see what errors you have (if any). And check the carpets (probably underneath them too).

No VCDS.
In the MMI, the battery shows as less then 10%, but with a multimeter it has 12 volts.......

Think this is what Nick had - when everything works the MMI shows battery as good, but when things don't work, MMI shows battery as bad even though battery shows plenty of charge.
Will check the carpets though +++

let me know if you want it scanned

If you update MMI beyond a certain point it turns the battery meter off as it basically doesn't work properly :) You can turn it back on, as I did, but no matter how well the car started or how long it had been run it showed either <10% or full.

Mine has showed 75% a few times :D

there were several tsb's all around or near a similar issue, the fixs were update the mmi to the latest or get a different update from audi to one of the modules,

sounds like the latter to me.

you have the same errors in the battery manager that i did

however that tsb says

If you have version 0240 you do not need to change it
if the SW version is between 0270 to 0490 a software change is required

yours appears to be on 230 which isnt mentioned, but that doesnt mean its not at fault.

there is also reference in the tsb that sometimes the problem causes the battery enough harm that it does end up draining, mine didnt get that far just persistent false warnings.

Cheers for that.
Once my leg is usable, I will book the car in to Audi Leeds and see what they reckon. (kerching....)

After 2 days no-use, battery completely flat  (0.69 Volts)
Interior cabin dry so not the issue (obviously the battery is knackered so need a new one)

Will trickle charge today and get it to Halfords when I can to get a new battery (another £100 plus) then get it booked in to Audi for a diagnostic.... But leg still in plaster so still can't drive it.

At 0.69v the electrolyte should be completely ruined, so try not to switch the engine off. I have had two years of problems with the battery in my A8.
It was a 110Ah Silver Dynamic by VARTA. Have had green flag out 5 times, and have to charge every few weeks overnight.

A few weeks ago, it went flat after sitting with the radio for 30 minutes.
I had to get a taxi to take me to Eurocarparts and return back and fit the new one via my jump cables. Luckily it came fully charged.
I bought a Lion branded AGM 95Ah on offer for £135 (now £175). The difference between that and the VARTA is phenominal, and I have had no problems since.
The VARTA was obviously a duff or was ruined the first time it went flat after a few weeks of ownership. The Lion's crank speed and lack of wincing of illumination while cranking is impressive. The VARTA seemed to behave like a small battery with low Ah and low cranking amps. I coded it as 000915105CE

Cheers.
Will try and get the battery replaced this week then see how it goes.
