Are you just about ready for the audax Richard?

N+1+1+1+1... yet again

Decided I wanted a fixed wheel to try, I've flipped the wheel on the single speed a couple of times to fixed but only for a short duration so never really got the hang of riding fixed. Then I saw this track bike come up for sale and decided to bite the bullet, it's taken me a week to sort it out and today was my first ride on it. Completely different to riding fixed gear at the velodrome and not something I would recommend you try out on the open roads before getting lots of car park practise.

Only one (front) brake required on fixed gear bikes

Ready... Erm.. No.. Managed a run just short of 60 miles at the weekend with some stiff winds (again!).. It's going to be down to the weather on the day I think...

60 miles is good going, you're almost half way to the audax

PsYcHe 2nd April 2014 06:41 PM

Yeah.. only half-way.. that's the worry lol

Might be better with the Audi balance bike which converts to a scooter for downhill speed. A bargain at £279.00

When I was a kid (maybe 12 or 13?) I did almost exactly that, riding home from school. I had a nice lightweight bike so would have been going really quite fast, unlike that guy.

My football boots were hanging from my handlebar and I went round a corner and straightened up. They swung into my front wheel behind the fork. :eek2:
I went straight over the top and landed on my chin; still got a scar there to this day and a chipped front tooth to match.

As "luck" would have it I was right outside the local district nurse's house and she was just coming out. So she scraped me up and took me home - less than half a mile away.

I'm sure modern elfunsayftee would prohibit such activity but I just learned a lesson. No-one said anything, nor did they need to!

7:00am, about as late as I can leave it before deciding. Just checked the forecast and the wind is now showing gusts up to 40mph at one point, so I'm out. Gutted as I was really looking forward to this
