All depends if the problem was already there, or has just appeared!

Hi Mikki....can you buy those tabs separately, and if so how have you fastened it on?

Thanks,
Zip

You can buy kits from eBay, around the £45 mark.

This came from TPS. I'll check the price later.

It all started with the interior lights blinking on / off while driving.

Then the car started to believe the the back door on the passenger side was open. The error memory said: it's the back door's lock.
So changed the back door's lock for a brandnew one.

The error memory kept on saying: back door's lock.
Changed the control unit. That did not solve the problem either.

So pulled the fuse for the interior lights and hoped for better times.
The S8 slept for 5 months during winter, afterwards it now believes it is both back doors, not just one, and sometimes all of those doors.

No obviously broken wires in the doors.

So as it turns out, it is pretty unsolveable. If anyone can find it, it is MikkiJayne.

I'm glad I didn't see this until the morning!

Well, on the plus side, at least she's working on a LHD car, which means for once, the elsawin wiring diagrams will make sense without the usual guestimation to allow for conversion to RHD +++

The electronics are still kicking my arse so had a break and did some other things. I've been a bit lax on the photos so we're missing a few 'finished' shots, but I'll catch up on those later.

The stupid plastic rivets in the two strut top covers really annoy me since you either destroy them getting them apart, or lose the pin of the rivet. So instead, a little upgrade to improve ease of use:

Open out the hole to 7mm

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256185

Insert an M5 rivnut

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256185

Affix in place with an M5 bolt. Much better +++ I did the same on the other side with the cover behind the header tank

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256185

Next, repair the driver's side lower dash. Its quite common for the pocket to have broken off the main panel since its only plastic welded in a couple of places.

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256185

After a wipe with acetone, heat up the plastic with the hot air gun. This helps the glue bond

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256185

Stick it back together with hot-melt glue

Same problem with the steering column surround - I think someone had forcibly removed this to fit some aftermarket electronics.

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256185

Good one on the left. Unfortunately left and right hand drive are different so I can't just swap them so hot-glued the original back together then improved the fitment of the mic for the phone handsfree kit.

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256185

The wire was previously wedged in the broken trim. Peel back the felt and cut a slot for the wire

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256237

Feed in the wire and stick the bracket down then put the felt back and its much neater.

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256237

There needs to be a special place in hell for the bloke who invented scotchlock connectors :angry2: The only fix for this is to cut it and crimp it back together. Its too thick to solder properly. There were half a dozen in this state.

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256237

Tidied up the wiring in the dash

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256237

A nice thing about single-DIN cars is there is space for modules under the climate control. TPMS on the left, noise filter for the radio on the right.

http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1524256237

Surplus wiring removed plus a pile of nasty scotchlocks.
