That is true.

Just ordered a load of new componunts.
Trying to convert my MTB in to a bit of of a hybrid.

New chainring set, going from 22/32/44 to 26/36/48. New rear cassette, new discs for the spare wheels and new semi slick road tyres for them as well.

Week of riding next week to see how I do pre-upgrade and compare it with the upgrade.
Might get to hurl myself off some mountains this week as well.

There's guys in work who happily cycle 22+ miles to work everyday.
Fair play to them.

Not long now and you'll be back to full strength?

Daughter got me a hybrid a few years ago in the hope that I would get back into cycling. The logic was that as I'm 'old' and therefore not as supple as I once was the sit up position of the hybrid would be easier for me rather than stooping over a set of drop bars. In theory it sounded great, but in practise it was awful and I managed to cover a total of about 20 miles in 2 years before giving my son-in-law the hybrid.

That's quite a jump on your gearing that you're contemplating, hope the legs are up to it...

We'll find out after next weekend.

I peddle out at the moment which is annoying as I'm always pushing my self to go faster and I hardly ever use the 22 chainring.
Going to be interesting.

If this goes well and I survive the winter, I might get a proper road bike next year and take this back to more MTB style.

I think my legs are fine, it my lungs that's the issue at the moment.

Is age that much of an issue?
I was chatting to a couple of 50-60 year olds on the ferry the other week and they just cycled 40odd miles from cornwall to plymouth for fun.
Knowing the route they took and the amount of hills, its impressive.

Slowly getting back into the swing of things, still having lots of pain though so not pushing it too hard at the moment. Managed 102 easy miles last week and looking to equal that again this week

Managed a nice 37 mile ride today out to Dumbarton Castle and back. Was hoping to meet my son-in-law there (never happened) as he was preparing for tomorrows Commonwealth Baton Relay. He has to climb the rock with the baton...should be on BBC Scotland News at around 1:30pm & 6:30 Friday for anyone wishing to see it

This was my son-in-law on Monday when we went out for a cycle in Glen Roy. I nearly broke him...

I just can't help myself:Confused::Confused::Confused:

I bought this frameset last night for a few pounds, I was expecting it to be in poor condition given the price the vendor was advertising it for so was pleasantly surprised when I saw it in the flesh. My initial plan was to strip my Fort track bike and built the Omnium with the parts, but I think I might have to buy some new parts and build something nice as the frame is lovely. So for now I have borrowed the chainset and wheels from the Fort to see how I get on with the Giant. I bought some bar tape and the rest of the bits came from my parts box

Both track bikes together

My initial tootle round the garden shows the Giant to feel more road orientated compared to the Ridley, so I'll need to try it at the velodrome before deciding its future

Looks stunning.. I'll need to keep a closer eye out for some cheap frames..

I've decided the Omnium is too good to use as a beater so it's going to be built for using at the velodrome. New parts will be required and I will put the other parts I 'borrowed' from the Fort back onto the Fort and use it as a beater.

I managed to find some NOS American Classic 420 Aero track wheels, the only problem with them are the decals are not stickers but painted, so a day's work with paint thinners and Farecla to remove and clean each wheel.

I've ordered a Miche Primato Advanced 50T chainset and some Vittoria Diamante Pista tyres, just need to source some 1/8" sprockets for the wheel and a decent seatpost and it's ready to go

One done and one to go...

Wheels now de-blinged and I now have fingers like bananas
