I love the Irish system, having driven almost 2000 miles there in the last 2 weeks what a great idea - hard shoulder lane as shown in the pic is used for all slower traffic, bikes and tractors or if a slow lorry is approached from behind by faster vehicles they just indicate left and move across to the hard shoulder lane until they are passed. If turning right across traffic then other vehicles don't get held up they just undertake the car turning as needed +++
