I will say that German drivers don't seem as disciplined as they used to be, they're not as good as keeping to the inside lane as they used to be for sure.... finding open parts of Autobahn to get a move on were unusually rare. That said, I think we saw 178 on the clocks, and we worked out using GPS it was about 5% optimistic, so say just shy of 170. The limitation wasn't the car, it was the environment. I'll get a move on in the outside if the outside and middle lane is clear, otherwise its just too much to presume that the middle laners will properly check their mirrors before pulling out... So, yes, its quick, but well balanced and stable. And its very odd pressing the pedal and feeling proper pull at 150mph. The D2 / D3 I've had over there before will get up to those speeds, but take a bit of winding up. The RS has absolutely no hesitation.... Oh, and the vpower racing 100 they have in Germany sure helps...... +++ |
Nice :)
Is this on a par with Amar's, or is his in a slightly higher state of tune? I do find myself browsing RS6 Avants at the moment - driven vaguely responsibly I can't see them being any worse on fuel than my D2, which I run on high octane fuel anyway and average real world 16mpg over the last 22k miles. That average is very gradually creeping up following wheel alignment, tyre change, and much less urban driving than I used to do. My perfect combo at the moment would be an RS6 and a BMW i3 |

Of all the Audis I've ever driven, including the C5 RS6 (which was a tame kitten compared to this) the C6 RS6 is probably the one to have at least for a short while. Unlike most cars, the RS' tend to depreciate almost solely on mileage, with age not factoring in very much, so if you buy it right and use it rarely its not so hard on the wallet..... [/manmathjustification] ;) Mine was supposed to be sold this month, but with my foot surgery its the only auto I have at my disposal (shame huh?) so I need to keep it a little while longer. And even they I've still not found a car that could replace it... |
I forget all the ins and outs about specs and import numbers, but seem to recall most avants are earlier cars so have DVD nav, unless you go for the Plus model?
There's a nice looking Avant on AT today with adaptive cruise and 60k miles, but it's priced at what our S5 Sportback (a 2011 model with half the miles when we bought it) was advertised for at less than 3 years old. Will prob keep the S5 for at least another year (the next service and warranty for a year are all paid for) so will see how it goes. Miss the flexibility of an estate, especially one capable of warp 10! |
I keep looking at them too, but not having a garage and parking for just the one car it wouldn't be the correct car for us.
Would love to have that power though. |

The avant was available earlier, and came originally with 2G. The problem is the recession hit 2008 and a lot of 2008 cars got stock piled, eventually getting registered 2009 so with the avants, you have to look closely to see what you're getting. The plus model was a run out version in 2010, but there's no more power, and usually the specs are quite poverty so they're not as desirable as they sound. They basically have exclusive paint and leather as standard, but most dealers seemed to make hideous, or plain boring colour combos out of it, making it quite pointless. |
Very impressive! an extra 300Nm just from a remap!
Enjoy it, sound well worth it. I was looking at the start of your torque curve for laughs, looks like your RS6 now at only 1500rpm already produces the same torque as a D2 S8 at max power. At 2750rpm it produces the torque of two D2 S8's :) |

Ian - love the car by the way ... Amazing and congrats! Oli |

With 2 turbos and plenty of cubes the difference in that D3 of yours will be seriously noticeable after a remap. I've looked at loads of before and after stats, but really all that matters is the grin factor, and with the bigger blown engines, its guaranteed +++ |
Hi Oli.
Before it was 314 BHP and after it was 364 BHP, so that's "only" a 50 BHP difference, but as Ian says... It's all about the torque.. that extra 150 Nm means it pulls like a locomotive all the way to red line now and feels so much quicker. I keep meaning to video some 0-60 times. It has to be down into the mid to high 4's now. Feels like it at any rate. It cost me about £500 ish I think. Something like that anyway. +++ |
