When I got my D3 both my external dimming mirrors were completely gone, and they were the horrid bronze colour and the chemicals were leaking out.

After looking for months, I managed to get a pair of late D3 Pre Facelift dimming mirrors. They are genuine Audi, but do not have the black plastic surround but instead there is a thin border which does not dim, and the rest of the mirror dims.
Got the pair for about £130, which was a bargain at the time from a generic breakers and from a casual glance they look just like normal mirrors. Only when a car is behind with lights on do you realise they dim, and see the thin undimmed border.

Sorry I don't have the part numbers, but they are on the back of the mirror glass but I am reluctant to remove them but I'll take a picture of the glass later so you can see what I mean.

edit. no need for picture of mine.

These are what I have, this A8 parts one (Sold on Ebay) for more than what I paid for the pair.

Remember Pre Facelift and the Facelift D3 use different mirrors.

Hi There,

My drivers is the old style, but i'd be happy to upgrade to a trimless pair or even have different style ones in each side, I'd just like not to get blinded!!!

Interestingly it looks like there are lots of varients, I had a search through this

http://www.partsbase.org/audi/audi-a...aud-4e0857536m

and the last letter code seems to change according to quite what it does, though some codes can be left and right, so it's probably an ocasional search and run through on ebay every once in a while as the mirror works to a fashion, just not quite what I want!

Shame the old D2 S8 ones don't fit as I have a dead one still and the mirrors were reasonable IIRC!
