Thanks guys they didn't have those in my local but found a link suggesting a set they did have.
That was a mistake as I've only just been able to 'tear' the second of the keys back out. Will order the ones you've linked to and hope I haven't broken anything that matters

Well the Ebay tools arrived today (fantastic service) but apparently to no avail. I still can't get the unit out of the sleeve. I don't know if I broke something yesterday (which is entirely possible) or I'm missing something obvious. The tools only fit in one way round and whether I pull them in or push them out seems to make no difference. Time for a large coffee and rethink

Hurray unit is out. Tool used on the right hand side inserted about half way (this is currently stuck in the front of the dvd drive and I can't get it out).
Screwdriver eventually freed the left hand side.

I was astonished Matt. I didn't order till well in the afternoon yesterday.
Currently thinking about dropping the unit in for repair. I've had a quote of £165 from a place on Croydon which isn't far from me. They replace the laser. EBay seller wants me to split the unit and photo the inside to confirm if his part will fit. Once I factor cost incl import charges as well as timescale.....

Photographed my opened unit for the Ebay seller as requested on friday. Not had a reply yet. Given all previous emails were answered overnight I fear it's not the correct part. The place that changes the laser said as much to me on Friday, but I figured they would/might regardless.
I think I'm going to get it repaired.

Emailed at midday today and drove over to Croydon. New laser fitted and unit cleaned (first comment when he saw the drive was... 'It's a diesel isn't it?' Very sooty compared to other one he showed me and inside even worse). Tested on his bench with my discs and everything worked.
Back home refitted to car loaded new disc up immediately and all looks good. Fingers crossed problem solved.
