Some interesting figures there, especially the timing belt! 75K for the accessory belt is pretty optimistic. Surprised at 30K for the air filter too.
Perhaps I was thinking of the diesels for the 3 year interval... |
Looking at those tables I think it's working around a nominal 15K miles a year with an oil change every 6 months. A far call from long-life oil changes!
But that still allows 7 years between cam belt changes. |
6 year for the Air filter? I would replace that straight away. I am sure I read somewhere that its best to replace it every year. Its only £20 or less so not really a bank breaker.
After 12 months my air filter is dirty enough, full of dust, I cant imagine how choked up yours is. Spark plugs, in the manual it says 60k km (~40k miles) but doesnt mention time. I am sure a Audi mechanic told me its best to do them 4 years or sooner because you don't want them to get baked in or slightly corroded and hard to remove. I did mine at 4 years and most were fairly easy to remove and not jammed in. The also revealed the cam cover gaskets were leaking a bit so I had those replaced as well. Belt on my car lasted 8 years before I replaced it, maybe just luck but I would say the Audi belt is quite tough. Also fuel filter every 2 years. |

Ah, Adrian's situation, not a schedule. ;)
Yes, seems a bit long though I've taken air filters out and cleaned/dusted/hoovered them if they look otherwise OK. Though after 6 years I'd be surprised if they were still "fresh". Lots of rubbery stuff and paper in there. |
It's been done in between - but was part of the last major overhaul service

Please do post when you decide what to do!
Hi Adrian,
This is a very useful thread, hope you update when you decide what to do. My 3.7 is 5 1/2 year old belt, 50k done, list of parts on invoice Damper, 3 Relay rollers, Lever, Water pump, Thermostat, V-belt, Tooth belt. Is "Damper" the tensioner mentioned in other posts?? Thanks, Robert |
I laid out and photographed all the parts (for a 4.2) in this thread:
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthrea...7769#post97769 The tensioner and the associated lever and pulley are also known in some parts of Audi documentation as a clamping lever which I think may be a mistake (or misprint) for "damping" lever tho' the tensioner is alway a tensioner! If in any doubt use the appropriate reference in the tech dump which is under D2 Common Problems thread. |
