22 inch:eek:

I fitted a tow bar kit to my D2 and it's very manly, there is no way 100 kg even will deform it or the car. The D2 will drag 2200 kg legally. That weight can push pull and not brake it. A couple of adults sat on there no worries.

Could you modify it with those friction type thing you get on bike racks.

I completely forgot that the Americans have that square bracket. I thought it would be the same as my bike rack, that does not rock or tip over when the bits are on it. Could always get that ball clamp welded on.

Ok, two bikes is slightly different to 24 stone of humans.

Sitting in a hammock on the back of car would be cool, we can then take the hammocks off and use them in garden, multi use FTW!!

Just been having a look at the ball-clamp type fittings - I'm sure you could contrive something like that to clamp on to the swan neck. I've only seen the ones which bolt behind the tow ball before, but it seems obvious now that there would be solutions for swan necks. I guess the only challenge would be finding something which could resist the turning force of two adults hanging from a 6ft pole :D

With a removable bar I'd be tempted to ditch the ball all together and just engineer something to "plug straight in to the receiver" under the car +++

Cut up a swan neck and custom make something?

need the clips and ball bearings in it but I like the idea.

Mmm thats a good idea. If you bought a spare swan neck from something else you could cut the ball and most of the neck off and weld / bolt on a piece of box section in to which you could then slot the unmodified bracket for your hammock.

Cut at the red line. The orange is new box section to fit the hammock. Need to make sure the height of the peg (green arrow) is the same as the A8 one so it clears the bottom of the bumper.

:)

Just be careful welding that swan neck, might have to weld that with cast rods, mig will probably look ok on the outside but like aero chocolate inside as the swan neck is cast?

I am not familiar with the Caravan dogging community so have little experience of this towbar stuff but would this fit in the Audi towbar?

I wouldn't do it.
I got a couple of welding mates, I'd get them to do it for me.

Thats that basic idea I think.

Caravan dogging? No idea what you're talking about. never heard it.

We like going on the moors and watching the sun set.
We've taken a blow up pool, filled it full of pillows and duvets.
it was great, fell a sleep and woke up at 0100 under a star filled sky.
It was great.

This one looks neat..... not sure about strength though!?

Maybe a bolt around "collar" on the square section would be easy to fabricate?
