I have a genuine cable (pre limited VINs) and the only thing to be aware of is that some in-depth coding changes won't be accepted by the newest cars.

For example, our 2015 Golf GTI refused to accept the coding for a RVC retrofit unless plugged in online to Germany. At which point it alters the coding to the same values you try to entry with VCDS.

For the vast majority of OBD enabled VAG cars it does exactly what you need it to.

Cheapest way to buy "new" VCDS unlimited VINs now is:

• HEX-V2-USB 10 VINs £299
• VIN Upgrade £169
• Total Cost £468

That would be "faster" than the old cables apparently, but won't work with Lambo (which the old cables do).

The second option would be HEX-NET unlimited at £575

So the old cables are now at a premium!
