The Dell 5000 series machines are a good used buy - as Brian said, very popular for corporate fleets which tend to get replaced every 3-5 years or so and liquidated at very sensible prices. I have a few of them doing various duties. Look out for the ones with the higher resolution screens as a lot of the budget specs have 1366x768 panels which is bit pants these days since most web sites are coded for HD screens now. The 5300 and 5400 both had a 1600x900 display option which is much nicer. Full HD is quite rare on these 15" models, but they do exist. The i5 is definitely the better choice in these, as is an upgrade to a solid state disk if you can get one (corporate hard drives tend to get shredded rather than wiped so resellers will probably be fitting replacement drives to them). i7 versions exist but carry a price premium, but the i5 is entirely capable for everyday use. They'll take 16GB ram too which is a bonus for W10, but are quite picky about which modules they use so check that carefully if you're looking to upgrade.
