ADVISE NEEDED
As you all know i have had my S8 for sale for over a week now. It has been listed on ebay for 7 days and it is coming to an end shortly. The response i have had has not been as good as i would have wanted. I have had a few offers from people that think i am going to sell it for peanuts, i have had an offer to swap it and i have had somebody ask me more questions than i can remember then just ignore me. So what do i do now ? If i need to reduce the price too much then there is no point in selling. The only reason i am selling is to upgrade to a better and newer car. So what should i do ? a: keep the car ? b: relist the car and hope for the best ? c: advertise to a wider audience ie autotrader, pistonheads ect ? d: reduce the price ? Please let me know what you think. |
Most people will probably tell You to keep it. But realistically You should advertise for wider audience, put ad everywhere You can, You can also put classified ad in e-bay for 30 days, try local papers, internet sites and forums also put a sign in window. And prepare to wait, this is not a corsa or focus that You can sell in a week.

definately B and C but not D
Just be patient and the right person will find it - a week or two isnt really that long in the world of 8 sales oh and good luck it deserves to find a good home +++ |
They are all good options...
Like anything else, if you want to sell quicker, you have to drop price. But at some point, it is so cheap, you might as well keep it. You can advertise further afield, and put up with more cost, and more puppets contacting you, but may yeild a sale. On the plus side, the motor you're looking to upgrade to is probably having similar issues selling so mau have more scope for discount. Look not at the price you sell yours for, but what price you can stomach overall for the 'change', ie final purchase price of yours minus what you get for yours.... If he drops his 2K, you could drop yours loads and get shut real fast and be no worse of for example.... |
pistonheads free ads is usually worth a try - the spammers are easy to weed out as they're so obvious!
Took me 2 months to flog a perfectly ordinary Passat estate on there, but at least it was free and the eventual buyer was genuine and paid what I wanted for it. |
Hi Darren,
Agree with Ian and Neil...advertise on a wider set of sites. I have to say I loved your 8 - if I was in the market, I would snap yours up in a heartbeat!!! Good luck with the sale, Oli |
Tend to agree with most others Darren, these things dont tend to sell quickly and as Ian says what you may be looking at probably has the same problem, also think Ian's "cost of change" is really the important factor here, having said that dont really know why anybody on here looking for a car has not snapped it up to be honest, just be patient there!!

Not my colour and 6k was 2k too much for me :).
scarily 2000 and 2001 S's seem to be in the £3-4.5k range with less miles and that is what most look for. I know how cherished it was so if it comes to a choice of letting a muppet have it for 4 or me... i do have the cash even without the sale of mine. PM if desperate or be patient. (types he in the full knowledge that 4k ish would be far too low but hey, don't ask, don't get :) ) . £3k this one now. Scary. http://www.edgbastonmotorcompany.co....01121387995687 |
Your logic, as always, makes perfect sense young Blank, however if the ad men could get hold of this it might become, "this is not just an S8 its an M&S8" I had the chance to give this car a try recently and though I didnt take it far it just seems so much more driveable after the remap
