Mine is:

I am very careful (specifically) in 20 zones as I do agree that they are there for a reason - I get overtaken while going 20 in the area past our kids school with angry looks from the drivers when I provide adequate hand signals about their driving.

The 20 zone is not time limited so it is also active outside school hours as you never know whether the school has a function on. The passing/flashing etc even happens at 8:45am.

I have really become very chilled these days about other people’s driving and tend to try and rise above it as there is no accounting for stupidity and no amount of fingers, swearing or stabbing people at the side of the road will make any difference.

So just to play devil advocate here (unlike me I know) reading though these there were a few that mentioned Motorways and the speed that other users are joining. Now lets not forget that 70 is the maximum and not a minimum speed and that some vehicles are not capable of 70. Traffic already using the motorway have had at least 2 signs to warn or inform them that a junction is coming up , normally at a mile and again at half mile before said junction. It would be extremely hard if you made contact with a vehicle joining the motorway to blame them as you have had a mile’s heads up that the junction is there, and it would be a sound assumption that someone might want to use it. So you could adjust your speed to suit them as opposed to assuming everyone should get out your way.

I was told by a traffic policeman that as a general rule you should try and give 1 flash of the indicator for every 10 mph you’re doing to give other people time to see what you’re doing, if you’re in the middle lane overtaking and you have to move out into the outside lane then start your manoeuvre by indicating this will give the traffic in the outside land time to see what your intentions are. He said if you allow 1 flash for every 10mph the traffic in the outside lane should adjust their speed to suit i.e. slow down to allow you out, as you should not be made to brake on the motorway and you have given plenty of time to see your intentions.

Try it 1 flash for every 10mph it feels like you’ve been indicating for ages and so unnatural.

I thought the Police had already warned you about your flashing on the motorway. . . ahem. . . . :rolleyes:

All I can add, living in the countryside with lots of 60-30mph & 30-60mph junctures.
Why don't we stagger the 30mph signs. You need to slow before reaching the built up bit, but that shouldn't mean when coming the other way you have to hold 30 way after the last house.
They manage exactly this in France, so we should be able to handle it.

Oh yes! Sorry, but I have been known to pootle (70) in the empty motorway lane one, up the inside of all the tail gating traffic, pull out when I catch a slower vehicle in my lane, pass it and return to lane one.
If more people did this the other lanes would be freed up :D

I only get a tad wound up with drivers who cannot keep up in a slowish stream of traffic with traffic lights every so often. They don't seem to understand that modern lecky control stuff can assess how much traffic is coming and change lights accordingly therefore they get stopped out every time. Once you are in that pattern it's difficult to get out of it :(

On Rear Fogs, the only time you need them on is if it's really, really poor visibility and you can't see a car behind you then put them on, once there is a car visible behind then put them off. Simples!

Oh, yes, then there's the muppets in poor vis conditions with only side lights on or even none.

Other than whats been said.
1/ in the countryside some roads have no white centre lines, seems to confuse town folk. So they drive in the middle, or your side of the road on straights and blind corners.

2/ mile ahead you are told of lane closed, closer to front most pullover and get in line. You will always get the odd one that will push there luck and jump the cue and go in closed lane right till the cones. Audi A8 might be wide,but not enough to block the lane like the truck drivers do, to stop them.

As a "country bumpkin" there's some logic to that, certainly round our way.
1. The edges are often damaged, so you stay in the middle (or wherever the best surface is) until you need to move over for oncoming traffic - which you obviously do as soon as you see them so as not to make them think they need to take avoiding action.
2. Bends (rather than actual blind very sharp corners) on narrower roads are often best taken (certainly left bends) on the "wrong side" as you can see farther ahead. It's much quicker to move back across the road for an oncoming vehicle than to stop for an unseen obstruction. Got that tip from a Police driver, and it works. ;)
Cutting the corner on a right bend that you can't see round is just stupid. :mad:

I dont really let myself get too annoyed about other peoples driving habits. Its such a long time since I used the horn, I dont remember how it sounds :)
I'm just glad to get out of any encounter without a crash or other damage.

Annoying habits:
1) nutters in general, and crazy people trying to teach you how to drive. For example, on completely empty motorway at night zooming past me at 80 and then cutting in front of me 1 foot away presumably to teach me not to be in the middle lane (I was ligning up for the next junction, maybe 0.5 miles too early)

2) People driving too close behind or dropping back into my lane right in front of me. They do this alot in France.

3) Not bothering to use indicators, especially on round abouts.

Surprisingly not annoying, slow 3rd lane hoggers. I dont like to go up their arse, so keep a safe distance. Here the nutters and angry people come in quite useful, so we cant get rid of them unfortunately. Almost always, withing a minute or less, a fast nutter or angry person will approach, I get out of their way, they slam up the slow hogger's arse, he moves, I overtake calmly through the cleared outside lane.
