Now that's a proper mission to have your box oiled, i drove from Devon to Burton on Trent (or somewhere round there) and thought that was a long way:respekt:

Wow. You paid 10 times as much for the battery, as you paid for the hotel room...

I'd be totally the other way round, I dread to think what a £23 hotel toom is like

Nice write up +++

I'm going to do this. The idea of a trip to Dortmund for a service failed to impress my wife  but she said make it more interesting and she'll give it a go. So, more interesting hmmmm. Suggestions welcome
Thanks for a great post.

Having stayed in Ibis hotels before.. the phrase 'pressure wash clean' springs to mind :)

Apart from the distance involved, especially for us 'North' folks, that's a good price for a proper service, once step short of a full refurb.

Spend a couple of nights on the Mosel river, in a nice little hotel (I can recommend one, they have they're own vineyards too...+++).

That's two and a half hours/220kms south of Dortmund, and you can come back via the 'Ring, if you like (60 minutes/50kms from the hotel on the Mosel). Will that do as a starting suggestion?

I can second that, that will make her happy.
That will make *any* wife happy, short of bottoming out your credit card. :p

Audi-Content:
August Horch was born at the Mosel river:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winningen (english page is not THAT informative)
Then a trip to Zwickau to the Horch-Museum, where he did most of the work.
Then through the place where he died (Münchberg), only 200 metres from my birthplace (wink, wink) towards Ingolstadt for the mothership.

Ooops, roadtrip !

Another idea is visiting some of the villages on the rhine:
Some suggestions here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhine_Gorge

Brilliant suggestion, the Mosel that is. Could you please post or PM the hotel.
The ring would certainly make things interesting, she'd scream blue murder for all 13 miles of it, me to it I'm honest :D
Thank you

Here's the website link to the hotel: http://www.hotel-haus-lipmann.de, which is very good, though definitely not of the IBIS type mentioned earlier on this thread....

The alternative plan would be to leave her at the hotel while you go the the Ring for a few laps, and then come back for dinner together. It's actually only a 45 minute drive (on your own...) and a very nice drive in it's own right. When I did this a couple of years ago, I called ahead when I was leaving the Ring, ordered my meal, and it arrived just after I got back. So everyone was happy :D

If you do go there, I recommend their own house white - it's very good, and ridiculously cheap, so well worth bringing back a few cases!
