Thank you. |
Thanks M-A8
Now to add some more problems to my list. Leaking screenwash, it comes out as fast as I add it. Leaking from area behind front wheel, so the tank area itself. Most likely a dodgy pipe connection (I hope), but access looks to be a pain. Drivetrain noise, cause not yet identified. Whining noise at 70mph, and an audible judder just as the car comes to a stop. The judder does not happen everytime, nor is it felt through the brake pedal or steering. so currently not sure of cause either but they maybe linked together. |
Tyres replaced today, so nice to have four tyres with the same tread depth.
1) Sort out battery captive nut so the battery can be secured down - Completed 30-12-2013 2) Replace cambelt / tensioners/ water pump/ thermostat / Aux Belt - Completed *7/01/2014 (except water pump, seized bolts in head) 3) Replace all four tyres - Completed 17/03/2014 4) Have MMI screen mechanism fixed, common issue because of cog with missing teeth (works fine (for now), just judder a lot on open/close)*- TBA 5) Intake manifold variable flaps need fixing - TBA (low priority TBH) 6) Have exhaust flexi joints sorted - Completed 3/03/2014 7) Sort suspension issue out. Either wiring / sensor or compressor. Hopefully the first one, but knowing my luck it will be the last - Completed 07/01/2014 8) Have suspension air compressor rebuilt using repair kit - Completed 21/01/2014 9) Upgrade MMI firmware from Version 3.50 to Version 57.50 - Completed 14/01/2014 10) Replace Alarm Siren to remove VCDS Code - Completed 18/01/2014 11) Fix parking sensors, front nearside is dead - Completed 01/03/2014 12) Fix Screenwash leak from bottle area. |
Time for another update
Had the wheel alignment checked on the D3 last weekend and it was perfect and spot on, no adjustment requirement. At last something on the car that does not require fixing because it was correct. My door touch sensors decided to start working properly for no apparent reason, they have never worked properly since I got the car until last week. Scanned the car for faults with VCDS and this has revealed that the Alarm siren I purchased from A8 parts in january has died and suffered the same fault as the one I replaced it with. 1 Fault Found: 01134 - Alarm Horn (H12) 012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 01101100 Fault Priority: 3 Fault Frequency: 97 Reset counter: 99 Mileage: 211229 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2014.03.31 Time: 08:51:09 The scan also revealed a single occurrence of a fault on the air suspension, I'll have to keep an eye on this one to see if it comes back. I have no idea when it happened as the mileage indicated as 0km. 1 Fault Found: 01399 - Relay for Level-Control Compressor (J403) 009 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 00101001 Fault Priority: 2 Fault Frequency: 1 Reset counter: 105 Mileage: 0 km Time Indication: 0 Both these are in addition to the pre existing ones relating to the footwell heaters, the component protection fault on the DSP and the fault with the HVAC recirculation motor. None of these are effecting the way the car behaves so are low on the priority list. Lastly, I have replaced the wiper linkage with a secondhand one from ebay as the original one had developed a lot of play in the passenger arm spindle leading to a juddering on the passenger blade. |
Today I finally ordered some replacement external auto dim mirrors, main reason being my drivers side has been slowly getting worse over the last few weeks as the chemicals are leaking out following both mirrors turning gold.
The replacements are used genuine ones but appear to be a later design than the old ones, so hopefully will have better longevity. |
What's the difference between the later and early ones?

Ahhh I know the ones.
Same as what I got on mine. Thanks. :) |
One thing I do have is a parasitic battery drain and as yet I am not completely sure of the cause, suspect alarm siren as it has failed again.
I've been staying with family away from Dorset for the last week, and the A8 has not really been used that much. Basically if the car is left for 36 hours the battery meter indicates a drop from 100% down to about 80% (2 bars gone), a short drive round town brings it back to full 100% again. The car is usually used everyday so the small drain is not usually a problem. I am now back in Dorset but using my dads car, so the A8 is sitting on their drive and will be for the next four full days. I drove the car at lunchtime today, so I hope the battery will still have enough juice to start the car again on Friday evening/Saturday morning. |
